I can tell you right now that he/they have no idea what they are doing. A red scotch brite pad is too harsh for wetsanding purposes. It is the equivalent of 400 grit sandpaper. This should only be used if a repaint is planned. Wet-sanding should never go below about 1200 grit and then work your way up to 2000. Then compound, polish, glaze, wax. As a professional who does this for a living, please do not do what these people are doing as it relates to wetsanding. They are clueless.

You can wet sand it and then buff the shine back to get rid of orange peel.

Yes, that is correct, but a red scotch brite pad is too harsh for that purpose. As stated before, a red scotch brite is the equivalent to 400 grit sandpaper. The lower the number, the harsher the scratches.

If that is the case, then he needs to use a sealer that will absorb the scratches from the scotch brite pad. Without a sealer, anything below 600 grit sandscratches will show up once painted. Not immediatly, but about a month after the item is painted and all the chemicals have flashed off, you will see the sand scratches.

and can you try to narrow that down a bit. Its OBVIOUS he is going to repaint them. But what color is he painting them is the question in mind here.
