painted base model mirrors

hey there just wondering if anyone else who has a base model cobalt or G5 has painted the mirrors on there car like the ss and Gt models?
heres mine..
2 coats black....5 coats of clear. i havent polished them yet.

i got some from the dealer as part of my final sale.. i told them i wont leave the dealer or sign the paper till i have the painted mirror covers on my car.. they took them off the ss on the lot and swapped them out.. i feel for the poor ss owner who got screwed on that one

i wrapped my in that carbon fiber vinyl then cleared them, they look pretty good, but it would be a pain to wrap them if you have no experiance with vinyl or tint

thanks...i just taped em off sanded em...used a cloth to clean em then i sprayed the black..and after that i applied the clear...the car will be parked all winter so im going to polish them sometime during the winter..

kingg5: I sure hope you sanded down that nice smooth surface and used a good plastic primer on them...if not the paint will not hold...I am speaking from experience.

I recently painted mine silver to match my car as well. Sanded with 180 grit paper, then 800 to smooth any scratches. 4 coats of grey primer. 5 coats color matched spray paint, and 6 coats of clear.

of course i sanded it down and its painted with endura...so as for it not lasting..we shall see....my father is a proffesional bodyman/painter and he taught me everythingi know so im not a slouch when it fcomes to this.. buit thanks for your info...

They look good. I actually bought the colored covers from the dealership for my car. I am thinking about taking the mirrors off and actually painting that black plastic a gloss black.

i actually painted my own with the gm touch up paint...it turned out quite well and has lasted a while already. only thing is that it looks like it is starting to dull. i never wet sanded and gave them a good wax. do you guys thing that would help to bring the lustor back to them?

oh here they are btw...

yeah they aren't too bad but i had extra paint thats why i did them. But does anyone know about the fading problem?

I have not had any problems with fading. I have had them installed for 6 months. If I was to paint them myself I would add 3 - 5 coats of clear after the color to help prevent fading.

They're really cheap from the dealer... check out CED or GM Parts direct... or heck, check local junk yards or e-bay.

yeah i put a buttload of clear but it is still losing that shine. ill just wet sand and polish and see what happens. if not ill splurge for a set from gm lol
