you want to paint a head not powdercoat it. powdercoating is a huge heat retainer so thats not something you want on an engine. basecoat clear coat with the right prep work does wounders.

Why would you remove the head and do all that work.... just to paint it?

Agreed..

If you are actually talking about the head, please don't attempt it yourself. If you think it's just the bolts you can see then you will be in serious trouble and this project will only end badly.

EDIT Well this blew up while I was posting. It is a waste to need to buy $220 in parts to paint an object

Are you talking about the VERY TOP of the motor? that is the valve cover. A 10mm and maybe a 13 or 14mm will get that all off for you. Remove, paint, reinstall. No need to really replace the valve cover gasket.

This??:

You've gotta pull the S/C off it, exhaust mani, any other parts that are bolted to the head, timing case, timing chain and valve cover. Then pull the head bolts out. Then paint it, put it all back together with a new headgasket, both manifold gaskets and then put it back in time.

The head is hardly visible in that picture.. I really think your thinking of something other then the head. Describe what the part looks like, we might be able to help then.

Valve cover is easy. Live I said, a few bolts (10mm, 13mm, or 14mm, not certain on sizes), prep, paint, clear, reverse

Nope, I reused mine twice and all is good. It's the head gaskets that you MUST replace
