Painters Tape Front End?

alright so i know some of you have painters taped your front ends for long road trips and what not, my questions is, how long is it safe to leave on, and how many rolls did you use about? im going to do half the hood, the front bumper, half the front quarter panels, and the mirror backs. Im taking a roadtrip from Seattle, WA to Las Vegas its about 2000 miles and i dont want my front end getting more fucked than it already is.

Thanks for the help

Joe

Just be warned masking tape deteriorates from UV light, aka the sun, and its not pretty when it comes time to take off the tape. I'm not sure the time frame that you'll have. just I've seen what one summer weekend will do to a strip of masking tape.

honestly you should be fine. It's not worth the time and energy for taping it up and pulling it off

Yeah a layer of something underneath to help aid removal of the adhesive will work well. my only concern was when it breaks down it becomes one hell of a mess to clean up, and your left with a lot of adhesive still on the car.

The clear bra idea is probably your best bet, cause obviously your not going for looks, and this way it kinda looks better than tape, and you get the added bonus of reusability. For the mirrors go to an auto parts store and look for a 3m product called stone guard. Only this stuff isn't cheap nor reusable.

Well definitely try the wax then tape. It's a long haul so anything to protect from chips is certainly better than nothing.

no, you'll be fine... i drove from tx-nc-ky-pa over a 2 week span an got no new marks in anything...
got no marks or dents from goin from tx-va an back in a 2 weeks span either...

all my dents an knicks came from sittin in the barracks parkin lot... fuckn soldiers lol

if anything, do a clear bra.. its not 2 hot outside so painters tape'll praly be good if you're that worried.. but if anything a clear bra'll look better, an protect your front end during an after the trip

oh an if you get a good price for one lemme know... I was thinkin bout gettin one a whiles back, but my money got shot, my trip got rushed an bla bla...

He's not talking about masking tape. He's talking about blue painters tape.

To the OP: You should be absolutely fine. I had blue painters tape on my car for 3 days and had no problems what so ever. Mine got wet on the 3rd day and it made it come off super easy, but even if it doesn't you won't have any problems.

Here's some pics of my car when I had the tape on it (my old 2.2 ion)
