Painting!

Ok so I would like to paint some interior parts of the car but not too sure how to get them out. I know there is another thread like this but this is a little different. I want to paint the glove box opener, the other drawer opener thing where the trunk button is located and the silver insert on the auto gear shifter. And ideas on how to take these off?

FYI: pic is not of my car

I painted the trunk release door and glove box handle in my old cobalt, and 1st off i'd advise don't cuz a) looks like **** lol and b) doesn't feel right when you touch it... however if u insist on doing them:

the trunk release just kinda pops out, take out the whole panel its attached to by just pulling on it and you'll see what i mean

and the glove handle, if i recall there are a couple screws you have to take out then it should just pop right off

Yeah I wasnt 100% on doing it but I thought it would look better than doing the whole around the radio/hvac controls and dash trim like everyone else..not a fan of that. I just wanted to add a bit of colour. Also want to paint the inner cup holder and the area around the shifter...like so...[IMG][/IMG] Could you post a pic of what yours looked like if you have any pics?
And the glove handle...I saw the 3 screws but it looked like the thing wouldnt come out...like it was one piece...but I guess I will have to take em out to see

ya i pretty much agree lol. i would jus stick with painting the trim a nice color, and id use an automotive one stage paint so it comes out nice, and it seems that dark or bland colors look better than random bright ones, ive done my trim different colors in the couple of balts ive had

my current is gunmetal and i think it looks the best, ive done black forest green yellow for a short time, cus my car is yellow, and now gunmetal and i think that looks best and so do all my friends. but the glove box latch can look nice along with the cupholders i havent ever done them but sometimes it looks good. ive never seen the change pocket on the left look good tho

adding paint doesn't always make stuff look better, sometimes it just makes it look worse. Go for the ring around the cup holder and the shifter piece for sure, but don't do the 2 handles.

Thats too much IMO. The paint is going to flake off the centre console in no time.

still cant figure out what color i would like to paint my trim, light beige LS interior, Cashmere gold exterior, thinking just going low gloss black, i see these red/blue trims that are way too bright and look like hot wheels cars.

So doing the glove latch would be a no no? Lol. I agree the centre console looks really bright but it doesnt look too bad when I have the armrest down. I wouldnt imagine it would flake since I really dont touch it. But i guess we shall see.

As in too much red? Or because it looks pink. Its actually red. I just took the pics in a parking garage with the flash on so the colours look all off

i like the red, but the center console part seems.... unfinished if you only do the one piece.. thats just my 2 cents. really like the ring on the cup holder, you've given me a good, small project for my day off next week plus some other goodies i've been working on

^im not going nuts, like some people. i like subtle. i test things by wasting some spray on paper, and lay it over to see if it will look bad, or if it looks too much. saves me the hassle of removing paint/buying a replacement to undo a bad job.

WAY too much imo. the center console, cup holders and vents look very cheap now, to me when spray painting the goal is to make it look factory, and that looks far from anything a car companuy would do, maybe hyundai lol. but i would spray ur center console a dark grey if anything and the vents back to black or dark grey. and you could do the latch i might as well match that to the other red parts

Lol, yeah. The center was too much. IMO I would have just gotten an armrest and redline goods padded cover in red and black.

You know I never thought of that. A really good idea

And I do have an armrest I just lifted it up to take the picture. I know its alot of colour but I wanted something different. I will probably get tired of it sooner or later but I like it for now. This if also my first car so I have to experiment :P

That subwoofer cover painted red looks just hideous!!!, spray that thing black again plzzzz, I just cant stand "big" pieces painted, some trim accents here and there is nice, but man, when you see a big fat shiny interior piece all flash coloured it just looks "cheap" and tacky...

I know its your car your rules, but does anyone get that same feeling when they see a big interior piece painted?
