People who use the "cheap" HID's..
Hey guys..
I'm considering getting the HID's put in. I was orignially gonna go for the Vision ones, but I figured I'd get the cheap ones first, see if I like it, then go from there later. So I decided on going with the ones from XenTec on eBay (also affectionately known as "the cheap HID kit"). Anyone have these? Any experiences? Overall performance? Light color as described? Also, how hard are they to install? From the pic at least, it seriously looks plug and play. No extra wiring, no extra routing, nothing. Just boop, boop, in. Correct? And I'm doing the fogs as well.. So should I just mount both ballasts on top of each other for the fogs and the mains?
Thanks guys..

I wouldnt mount ballasts ontop of eachother... they have the ability to get a little bit "warm". Id think down by the fogs there would be A LOT more room to mount their ballasts. I like to keep things seperated and clean for the most part.. lol

And do you have to do something with the battery? I watched a DIY video on You Tube and this kid put them on a Camry and did something to the battery, similar to attatching the cable for subs.. Do we do that? I just want to totally make 100% sure. I mean, $150 is still $150, even if it's cheap or not.
this is what I think I'm going to do. if all else fails i'll buy new "good" ballasts and call it a day if the crappy ones go bad. just out of curiosity, the fogs are h1 right? just like the projectors? or is one of them h11?

The fogs are H11, the aftermarket projectors are H1 (I'm told) and obviously the stock main lights are 9007. But exactly, even if they're not that good, they were half the price. So I mean, damn. I just need to know if there's any extra wiring, anything extra you need to buy so that you highs and lows work in the 9007's (or if you're good as-is), and what's up with the battery..
ok here is the thing:
as far as I know the only "high/low" HID's are the bi-xenon, which are mad expensive.
( the projectors have 4 bulbs, 2 high and 2 low so you can get around this, since you really shouldn't flip HID's on and off a lot anyway)
that being said....I've heard that once you have HID's you don't really need highs anymore so it's not that big a deal.
as far as the wiring goes, I would imagine you SHOULD be able to use the supplied power wire, and simply connect the wires, however I'm not 100% on that, since the ballast might need more juice than is provided (maybe?) and then your f-ing up your stock harness, in case you ever wanna go back. it might be a good idea to run the wire directly to the batt.
(hope I don't get in trouble for this..)

I bought cheap-o's for my retro.
4300k in the headlights and fogs.
They work fine and look fine.
I mounted the HL ballast under the light bracket, and mounted the fog ballast in front of the bracket (just inside the bumper cover).
I'd highly suggest buying some cheap rubber matting and making a weather guard if you don't have them. (ie, similar to what the SS/SC's have to guard the intake from the rain)

I could give a damn less. There's stock cars that have HIDs without projectors so tough.
So you don't need to do anything for the battery? Just plug the few things in, mount the ballasts and you're good to go? Are directions included at all?
Will a car pass inspection with them if there's no highs?

well I don't think it's plug and play is what i'm saying. you'll need a power and ground at least for that ballast so i'd imagine you'd either need to tap into the existing harness or attach something to the battery. and otherwise you've pretty much got it. (are directions included for anything on ebay?) and no prolly not lol (highbeam inspection is a must I believe)
