powdercoating anyone?

So over the past month or so me and a couple buddies have been thinking about starting up a little powdercoating business. Nothin huge just a little weekend job to bring in some extra money since we are in school for five days a week. At my fathers shop he has a sandblaster and an oven that are not the largest in the world. (oven could only bake 15" rims at the largest) then finally we get a break! One of my other friends works at a machine shop that has an oven large enough for him to crawl into and sit down in (he is 7' tall btw) so that opens up a whole new window of opertunity. I hope to be getting my stiffy in soon and am planning on painting the brackets with powder. Was just wondering how many ppl here would be interested in having some things painted and also what kind of things would you like painted. My friend says that we could probably fit up to a full set (4) 18" rims in the oven simultaniously. Let me know!

I just got off the phone with him and hope to be going down to his shop sometime this weekend to check it out. I will get pictures if you guys want. Also, we are in the Kansas City area.

have not figured out any pricing yet but i will be sure to let everyone know as soon as possible. prices will probably depend on if buyers provide the paint or if we provide. anyone know of any prices set by people around here? we would probably be cheaper. valve cover would be around $75 im thinking...

full set of 18" maybe 300-400 depends on paint and what not ( these are just guestimations I will have more info as time goes by)

ok if everything works out this weekend i should be test painting my friends wheels for him and maybe my other friends cold air intake. I will be sure to post any pics of things that have been painted by us and will keep you all posted

are u serious? paint alone would cost more that 25 for a wheel

how high of quality are they though?
We would take our time masking and doing prep work plus sand blasting and cleaning. that price they list is probably just to slap paint on and bake
Hell I have seen people charge that much for just one wheel alone!

I got my sand rail wheels done for $20 each. The entire frame was done for $160.

Powder coating doesn't cost too much more than a quality paint job. Most places will prep and coat a valve cover for about 10-15 bucks.

Remember that each piece has to be clean and pre treated , It can't just be sandblasted and sprayed up or you will have a bunch of rework and mad customers on your hands.

prices are going to depend on more of the design of the wheel more than size. also would depend on how many colors you are wanting ie. chrome lip on black wheel and what not. we are going to be doing all prep work this weekend and hopefully posting pictures of any work that we can get done to show people out there that are interested what we are capeable of. I will let you know a more specific price if i could get a pic of the wheels or later on in the week whenever we get our paint ordered.
