Project Taillights

...I want the slow guys to get a good view. haha

Hey guys,

This spring, I’m planning on making a project out of my SS/SC’s taillights. I’m thinking of something with LEDs, GM’s Rally Yellow spray paint, and Nightshades. However, I’ve got two questions because I know some people out there may have done something similar.

One, is will the GM spray paint (the kind in THIS sticky) stick to the outside of my taillights?

And, two, is what do you guys think would be the easiest way to mask off a circle in the taillights? I plan on painting the outer edges of the taillights yellow with the insides smoked out, with LEDs on the inside (probably nine LEDs per taillight). I was thinking about making a sheet of tape (a bunch of tape taped together to make a sheet of it) and cutting out a circle and masking off areas like that. What do you guys think? I really don’t want to waste 3 hours just masking things off wrong and overspraying and all that, you know?

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Hey mkulrey13, do you sell LEDs that fit the halos? One of the passanger side LEDs doesn't work.

Do you have to pry the lights apart to change them? I think you do.

P.S. Good luck with your project NOS2006.

You're sure that's the square style LED? He said he needs it for the halo. I thought the halo LEDs are regular LEDs and the LEDs in the top corner were the square ones? That's another somethin' somethin' I want to do this spring/summer.

I know to remove them from the car.. how else would I get the LEDs in there?! lol But yeah, the spray paint will work right on the surface of the plastic taillights? Sweet.

Thank you for your input, guys. I plan on doing this in the spring along with a few other simple mods (bowtie, slight debadging, etc.) and a nice detail with some clay and, afterward, with my new buffer. I'll be sure to keep you all updated.

Is there a way to make the Halo's more pronounced (brighter)? And can we upgrade the 3 LED's on the top to make them brighter also?

Opinion question -
Do you think whited out taillights (assuming they ever come out..) would look nice on a silver ss? I think I'm going to go with a silver and shiny metal motif..

Yeah, new LEDs! I had halos on my Camaro and I'm sure they're the same LEDs or halos or whatever, but with different LEDs, those things shine really bright!

I can't say for sure. On my Camaro's, you had to take the cover/housing off the headlight (bake it in the oven to get that off), remove the halo, and rewire a different LED into it. These headlights may be different..
