Projectors VS stock headlights

I was wondering is there was much difference in visibility between stock head lights vs a set of DEPO projectors (DEPO Projector Headlights 05-10 Cobalt - Lights & Bulbs)

Or if I would put some silverstars in my stock headlights. I like the appeal of the black on chrome since my cobalt is black.

I had put a set of DEPO projectors on a neon I had but I had nothing to gauge it on. The neons where famous for the headlight lenses to get oxidized and hazed over so I went from having two flashlights to projectors. And its been so many years I can't remember anything to compare the two.

I want the best visibility, not looks. I have a very dangerous drive to and from work and there are like 100000000000000 deer that are all over the place and I would like to see them before they run out at me.

Thanks.

If anyone knows of anywhere else I can get depo's for cheaper let me know. I won't buy e-bay brand any other low quality crap.

^^^^ . You will get the best of looks and visibility with projectors. Throw in some hid's too and you'll never go back

that's what I thought. Just wanted to make sure. Now I have to talk my wife into letting me get some...

I would LOVE to have HID's but I don't want to be that A-hole the blinds everyone. I know you can cut that down by doing a retrofit but I don't want to get that involved in my headlights. Its just easier to change the headlights to projectors.

Projectors are well worth the money, and a retrofit is well worth the extra money over a set of aftermarket projectors. Ebay projectors can't do this

it's... acceptable. about as good as your stock high beam. IMO. I didn't notice that much of a gain in the highs. The lows are what improved really, and overall looks.

Mine are the retros buyhids.com sells. The Depos are a great starting point, and are more than good enough for most people, but for some reason I am obsessive about my headlights. If you wanna take them a set further, go with one of the setups pictured below. What I picture are the Morimoto Mini H1s, which will soon be going in my Grand Prix. Let me show you a comparison real quick. The Cobalt's getting redone with TL projectors this winter.

G1s (what I have now)

Notice how dim the beam is, and narrow, and fuzzy the cutoff is, compared to the next 2.
Mini H1

These are great quality, and very easy to install (or so I'm told, I'll find out soon enough)
TL

The TLs have the brightest output, and the sharpest cutoff, which is why they'll be going in the balt. These will be harder to install but well worth the work. Also very expensive.

I'm more concerned with my high beam than my low beam. So would I be better off getting a set of silverstars...are they really that much better than stock bulbs?

Not from what I've seen in my experience. They tend to burn out quickly, and aren't any brighter, just whiter. The stock high beam bulbs will be just fine.

Well. I guess I will just replace my tired bulbs with new ones. I've owned the car since it was new and its pushing 92k miles and most of the driving is at night so I would see some improvement just by changing the stock ones out.

What bulb do the cobalts take?

Can you make just the high beam a HID on the projectors? If you can what would that entail?

You would need another seperate hid kit for the high beams. I think it's H7 as well. I could be wrong on the bulb size though. The only problem with this is the warm up time hids have. Look into the ultimate high beam mod if you do this, it makes your lows and highs run at the same time so you can still see while your high beams warm up.

Wouldn't that cause the bulbs to heat up to much and crack or just burn out. If not I would definitely do that mod.

No they'll be fine. HIDs don't produce that much ambient heat. Not so sure how the headlight lens will hold up though. Could anyone with aftermarkets put up a shot of the halogen high beams to help out here? Serisouly OP I wouldn't worry about it, they work pretty good stock.

To the OP I think there is a group buy for some bolt on projectors. From what I remember you can keep the stock housing look and still get the projectors with no modification to the housing.
