Prtotype SS wheels

Just out of curiosity, why did GM scrape the prototype wheels on the SS models like in the upper left corner of the site pic on every page? It'd be an awesome rim for a company to fabricate or GM offer as an accessory like the 16in chrome rims that are similar to the current neon rims. I especially think it'd be nice for GM to offer rims since it was their decision to go w/ a 5x110 pattern

Those are sweet looking rims, I was disapointed when I saw that they changed them.

The wheels are not a prototype the wheels were made by Racing Hart and they stop making those last year i think (not sure). But if they were still being made my guess is that the wheels were too much and GM wanted to cut cost to make more profit. You can still find these wheels on the internet somewhere i've seen some on ebay, but of course that was a while ago. They are nice wheels though i wish them came with the car.

*To fully answer question*
They are Racing Hart C5.
Note pic (which is on this site) and link (where you could buy them if you wanted)

Racing Hart C5 rims

The only thing that is different between the 2 is the center cap. Which I'm sure GM wanted their Bowtie on there.

I like them a lot, better than the current stock SS wheels. They look like they weigh less too which would cut down on rotating mass.

Racing Hart wheels are typically very light ..I would bet these wheels would weigh considerably less than ours..

definatly ... a friend of mine had to replace a rim on his speed protege and it was costly to say the least ..it would make a gret option for our cars ..I for one would have gone for it

I agree that these rims look awesome but they are not lighter the our current rims.
at least not these specific rims.

my buddy has the 17" C5's and they are definitly not lighter then my SS rims
