Pulled over for tints

Hey got my tints in on wednesday 6/15 and they look great. 35% all around looks perfect on black. Well todays saturday, so it only took 3.5 whole days before some 12 year old part time cop in some **** ant town decided I needed to be pulled over and given a breathalizer because of my tints. Hey why not, he's got tints and big wheels, he must be drunk or a drug dealer... Nope not drunk but here's that tint ticket anyway................ I am heated right now.... But what choice am I left with now... NYS law is 70%...... I'm not pulling the tints off ....... so as of this moment I plan on just sending in the ticket with a white flag and a guilty plea........

and here's the best part, he was trying to keep me talking so he could tell if I had "had a couple" (which I had nothing to drink at all) and he asked me if my car was comprable to the dodge neon str-4...... I wanted to say what the hell it a str-4. But I left it alone and just said nope its only a Ls not the ss/ sc. oh and he gave me a compliment "those are some nice aftermarket tires"

Thanks enjoy the donation

and the tints metered at 29% ........ he gave me crap about that too, because I tried to be honest and said the were 35%.... All right thanks for letting me vent...

Just go into court with a bunch of auto tint and say here is my tint I took it off, go easy on me.

We have a shop around here that does tint removal and if you get your tint removed it's 40% off a new tint job at a later time

I got pulled over south of Atlanta by ICE (immigration?) for "driving indecisively" when I moved out of his way (he was doing at least 95 in a 70, I was going 72). Didn't get a ticket, but there wasn't anything he could give me a ticket for. Glanced around the inside of my car, quized me on the info on my license and insurance card, then sent me on my way. Either way, I got pulled over for a bunch of bs too.

ive gotten the tint ticket in NY too
mine was $55 + a $55 surcharge, i plead guilty

if you have a picture of your car before the tint was taken off, print it out, and bring it to court
...and i would also suggest photoshopping a date on there thats 24 hours within your ticket
and if you do, dont drive your car to court

worst case, you have to pay the fine, best case, you get off

but i used to look at it like, its a tax to pay to be able to have your windows tinted, and theres a 50% chance you wont have to pay it, but sometimes you will

yea well I drive through this town daily, so hopefully this yearly tax doesn't turn into a daily toll.

Hey no one can get mad about this more than me, I have gotten pulled over 7 times (never gotten a ticket) 4 times for my windows, and the other times for random stupid ****. I live in a small town, and i get pulled over literaly about 45 seconds after i pull out of my driveway, cuz a cop always hides there. But you just have to be polite ans say im taking them off, i bought it this way. Or just put your windows down if you see them.

iv gotten plenty of tickets for tints in ny to get it dismissed you need to get a receipt dated the same or next day you got the ticket its easy if you know a auto repair place or any place that works on cars. then mail them in not guilty and thats it.

As long as you are with in state limits you'll be ok.. and state limits aren't that bad looking on our cars...... besides... the Cobalt come with the sun polorized windows or whatever you call it!!... so they already look like they have tints on them at night.. and if you go and throw "smoked tints" I think you'll be fine!

Dont worrie dude. I live in NY as well. Saranac Lake. I tell you NYS cops up here have a hard on jealously problem when it comes to something that dosent fall in with stock. i have been ticketed 4 times with my beretta for lights and crap. I never got pulled over for my 35% tint in the front windows though. but your not alone.

When I opened my local newspaper on sunday I damn near cried when I read the top headline.... "BETHLEHEM POLICE TO CRACK DOWN ON ILLEGAL TINTING".... apparently, the cops can now pull someone over just for having tinted windows.... then they proceed to check the tint % and go from there. Apparently its to protect the cops when approaching the window in a traffic stop. I've got two thoughts on that.... 1- Tell them to roll the window down and 2- if the driver wanted to shoot the cop, I'm sure he could right when he gets to the window. I'm really ticked about this cause tint was the 1st thing I was hoping to do.... who knows what will happen now.

You are more likely to get shot by the cop than the cop is to get shot by you.

Plus with 35% you can easily see through the window, I have mine tinted for heat/UV reduction and coolness...

What the police are realing doing is justifying overtime with a 'crack down' and also getting some extra revenue by issuing tickets and the likes.

You could also question the calibration of the tint meter, if you can get it checked by another source and see if they are messing with the calibration.

I was at Wawa this afternoon and I saw 4 cops sippin on their free beverages (go figure) and i decided to ask about the 'crackdown'. Within a couple minutes it was clear that 3 out of the 4 didnt care. In fact, 2 said they have tint on their civilian cars. The 4th cop, was a big ass about it... so i think ill take the risk...

After having tint for such a long time, driving cars without tint makes me feel naked.

I haven't had a problem with tint and cops at all. Inspection is a whole other story.....

It metered at 29% because of the factory windows have tint of 95 to 96%.

Yeah, NYS cops are crazy about anything that isn't stock on a car. I've always had interior LED's in my cars, and have never gotten in trouble for them...but if you have any exteriors forget it.

I know a ton of people that have gotten tickets for tint, exhaust and other various lighting charges in NY...plus the 70% is pretty lame. I used to get pulled over in my Blazer every now and then because the stock rear tint is so dark, even though its legal.

Just a note though, only the front windows have to be 70% in NY, so just tint all the back windows as dark as you want.

Thats what i'm doing, and I might do the fronts with like 35% or something since I live in a pretty large town....and I just put my windows down if I see any cops around...gotta love having power windows

OK a thing about tint in NEW YORK i only speek from experance and a little law experance. Yes the legal limit is 70% anything lower you get a ticket. Your tint could have been 35% when it was put on but were your windows dirty? that causes a lower light reading. If it happens a nother time ask to clean the window(inside & out shirt sleave is fine) before he takes a reading. If thats not going to make a differance, suck it up and pay the fine like the rest of us in new york. Thats what we have to deal with for black tints on a black car.
