Question on power windows

Whats up. Well I'm wondering if anyone has done a power window conversion to the Cobalt yet. I bought the base coupe and it doesn't have a power window option as you all know. What would it cost to do something like this and can it be done by owner? Thanks and talk to ya later.

I have a base cobalt too and wanted the same thing done. I talked to my local dealer and to add power windows the cost is around $500.00 and power door locks is an additional 500. as for installing it yourself it wouldnt be covered by the warranty.just get it profesionally done.

Thanks for the help. I wasn't sure if I could use just any kit for this. This will work out great. If you could get pictures, that would be great. Thanks again.

Does this give it the factory look...IOW, does it include new door panels, new window regulators, new switches on the armrest, etc? If so, $500 is not a bad deal at all. That SPAL kit isn't bad though. My sister had it in her '97 Cav and it never failed her in the five ears she owned the car. She ended up buying Chevy trunk emblems and sticking them over the hole where the crank goes.

Does the switch go over your exsisting hand crank? Was it very difficult?

Thanks

So, did anyone ever find out if the GM installation would make it look like it came from the factory with these features? And with the power locks, would you get the key fob and flash upon locking/unlocking (i.e. remote entry) like the ones from the factory? If so, I would say that $1000 isn't bad for all of that. How much do power locks and windows add to the price just as an option from the factory? I know most models come with them standard by now....

I always refer to mine as my "Ghetto-balt" when my friends forget to lock their door and I have to do it for them.

I just installed power-locks with key-less entry on mine for 45 bucks shipped from ebay. You'd never know it was aftermarket, I m super happy with the kit. Took me about 3 hours total, and most of that time was spent running wires, it was really pretty simple. And yes, the parking lights do flash when locking/unlocking, just like factory. I m doing power windows before the summer, so I ll do a how to then if there isn't one. The kit auto loc kit is on ebay for under 100 bucks. Bio- what did you do to cover up the holes in your doors?

spyder85, yeah i ve got the one with the little yellow box, prolly is the same kit. I didn't end up putting the light or the switch in, I wanted mine to be completely indistinguishable from a factory install.

So, I looked around on eBay and couldn't really find which kit you guys were talking about. What did you guys search for? "keyless entry kit" "power lock kit" or something like that? I tried both of those and couldn't find any with any little yellow box... Is it the CrimeStoppers one?

ok man, it says ranger. but its universal. mine said cavalier. if you read on, it says universal. he just provides instructions for the ranger with it. you will not nead the instructions though. use the how to on the forum.

Well, I just bought it. Looks like a pretty awesome package. Also, it seems like it has a lot of features for the price. Now I guess we'll just have to see how installation goes.

Uh, so which How to should I use? The one about how to remove the door panels, of course, but are there any others that are particularly useful? How do I know where to run all of the wires? I've seen the How-to on the 'power for 12v accessories,' but that doesn't seem like it would help me figure much out as to what to connect that "little yellow box" to. Where can I find what pins and wires (and such) control what, such as the parking light flash option/horn chirp/panic mode, etc? This kit says it can do all of that, but can it really?

The guy said to mention the make/model of your car and he would include installation instructions for it, but I don't know if he has one or not for the Cobalt. I don't think instructions for a Ranger are going to be too overly helpful...

I know that was a lot of questions, but any help would be much appreciated!
