Red Calipers on Laser Blue
I know someone was looking for some pictures of red calipers on a laser blue cobalt. I just finished the front two, and it's too dark now, so I'll have to wait till wednesday to finish up

very nice.....i see you painted that bar around the caliper...the only reason i didn't do it was because the gto came factory with painted calipers and that bar wasn't painted so i thought hmm, maybe it's for a reason but most likely not...very nice job

I was also thinking about going back later on and maybe leaving the bar red, painting the calipers black, with a red chevy symbol. Maybe that'll look good. I doubt I'll do it, but still

Exactly why I went with red

This little tutorial I put together might help you -
http://www.iammoon.com/c5tech/caliper_painting.htm
I did it on my lift, and much of this relates to a corvette, but the cleaning and painting steps all are pertinent -
I used dupli-color header paint ford red (yea, I know, ford red on a corvette....) and it is holding up great after more than 20k miles.

Yellow looks very dirty very quickly unles you run ceramic pads - but go with your taste.

Nice tutorial MQQN, but for my cobalt I just took a shop rag, squeezed it between the calipers and the rotor, overlapped the edges around the caliper and painted away, no need for masking. I spent more time taking off & putting on the tire than I did preping and painting

I will likely just remove the calipers to do mine - just to see how they come off etc.
Since I get my cars on the lift a lot, I prefer the back of the calipers to be painted too.
For cleaning, I used a few old toothbrushes (knew I was saving those for something lol) and simple green at full strength.
I found out a long time ago that brakleen is a VERY effective paint remover - it will even remove epoxy garage floor coatings....much too harsh for my taste.
I am also going to leave the caliper mounting brackets plain zinc coated as they are from the factory - I think that makes the custom painted calipers stand out even more - but that is a personal taste issue.
