Red Calipers on Laser Blue

I know someone was looking for some pictures of red calipers on a laser blue cobalt. I just finished the front two, and it's too dark now, so I'll have to wait till wednesday to finish up

Looks great, nice work

I wouldn't really expect red calipers to look good on a blue car, but they definitely look nice

very nice.....i see you painted that bar around the caliper...the only reason i didn't do it was because the gto came factory with painted calipers and that bar wasn't painted so i thought hmm, maybe it's for a reason but most likely not...very nice job

Yea, I was thinking the same thing, about not painting that bar. I looked at maybe 5 or 6 different cars and finally decided to paint them. Personally I like the look of it all painted. (also, when I was painting I slipped and got some on that part, so I figured I might as well paint it all)

I was also thinking about going back later on and maybe leaving the bar red, painting the calipers black, with a red chevy symbol. Maybe that'll look good. I doubt I'll do it, but still

HAHAHA What a coincidence. I never seen this post till just now. I just painted mine red 2 days ago. I was debating wether or not to go white or red. I bought both paints and decided to go red.

it'll look like crap in no time. if you're going to drive the car, white will just look dirtier than the silver calipers do. if you're going to let it be a trailer queen, it might be ok.

I am planning on painting my calipers red as well. What type of paint would everyone recommend and is there any prep work needed to do to them before you paint?

Dupli-color or whatever its called. Not to hijack the thread but, what do you guys think about yellow on a laser blue coupe?

hi NiceBaltSS -

This little tutorial I put together might help you -

http://www.iammoon.com/c5tech/caliper_painting.htm

I did it on my lift, and much of this relates to a corvette, but the cleaning and painting steps all are pertinent -

I used dupli-color header paint ford red (yea, I know, ford red on a corvette....) and it is holding up great after more than 20k miles.

best regards -

Hi REIGN -

Yellow looks very dirty very quickly unles you run ceramic pads - but go with your taste.

Nice tutorial MQQN, but for my cobalt I just took a shop rag, squeezed it between the calipers and the rotor, overlapped the edges around the caliper and painted away, no need for masking. I spent more time taking off & putting on the tire than I did preping and painting

Thanks Kemble!

I will likely just remove the calipers to do mine - just to see how they come off etc.

Since I get my cars on the lift a lot, I prefer the back of the calipers to be painted too.

For cleaning, I used a few old toothbrushes (knew I was saving those for something lol) and simple green at full strength.

I found out a long time ago that brakleen is a VERY effective paint remover - it will even remove epoxy garage floor coatings....much too harsh for my taste.

I am also going to leave the caliper mounting brackets plain zinc coated as they are from the factory - I think that makes the custom painted calipers stand out even more - but that is a personal taste issue.

best regards -
