red or white?

I'm thinking of switching out my brake lights to LEDs and I was wondering if I should do red leds or bright white? I smoked out the tails a little but not all the way black. Some time soon they are going to be all black. Witch would look better red or white leds?

white would be fine, that's what color the stock bulb is.

Although, white would make each individual LED stand out. Red would probably blend the light better.

white. No matter what color you chose it's going to come out red. Or in the same general area of red.

I was curious about this as well and although I don't have any other supporting evidence, here is what superbrightleds.com has to say:

Notes for Car bulbs

The first one is your answer.

You want the color of the LED's to match the lens color. Red LED's output in the red spectrum only and is strongest on that wavelength. You get much better output from a Red LED in a red housing than you would from a white LED in a red housing since you're not filtering out most of the light spectrum from the red leds that you would be with the white ones.
