Removing Nightshade

I did my tail lights about a year ago. i was stupid and didnt use clear coat the first time. So it is begining to wear away. Is there anything that will remove the nightshade without damaging the original red color? i heard goo gone or whatever. but then i also heard paint thinner. has anyone tried? and if so whats the step by step to removing it properly. thanks

I got VHT on my lights and it looks good. I just clear coated them so they wouldn't fade.

I put 3 light coats and a medium 4th coat of VHT, I have to fix it (So says a cop) and reduce the amount of tint on it. I'll be removing mine and redoing it with 2 light coats and 7-10 clear coats after a good wetsand. Polishing Compound + Wax and voila. I might post my results after they are done. Depends on how motivated I really am.

i did a set with vht and a set with a gun and the light output with the vht was just as good and they were straight black

the ones i did "professionally" looked 10000000x better though

i did 2 coats on mine, and during the day, there is the SMALLEST bit of red and at night (if my lights didnt light up) you could not see a thing. light omitence is basically as good as stock. but im gonna sand them and reclear them as they are orange peeled. i only put 2 coats of clear on so i need more

7-10 coats protects them more and when you wetsand it does remove about 2-3 coats of clear if done right. After that though 2-3 coats of light wax / polishing compound and they will be flawlessly finished and just as glossy as my car.

WHY are people recommending you use paint thinner on plastic? Are you guys trying to mess this guys tail lights up? You need to use a product that is not very acidic, goo gone should be fine.
