Projectors are cheap and have a cutoff line. That's about the only thing they have going. Retrofits have a SHARP cutoff (usually), have a MUCH wider beam, are brighter, even with the same bulb, go into the stock housing, so they'll last longer, and they have an hid high beam that is only a flip of the stick away, with ZERO warm up time, unlike if you were to try to run hids in an aftermarket projector housing.

I am in the process of retrofitting my headlights. I currently have 2nd gen Projectors that I hate! They suck at night so bad that I was going to put my factory headlights back on. Then I saw that I could retro my factories so I am doing just that. So far they look good. I have been doing it piece by piece, taking my time. My car is put up for the winter so I got time to do it right.

I can see everything I need to see at night with retrofitted D2S headlamps without blinding people like an *******. The high beams (bi-xenon) are ******* amazing.

I've been told they look fairly nice, too:

This is a $24,095 showroom car that I bought new. Something I won't be doing with it is ricing it out with cheap, e-bay knockoff parts like "projector" headlamps with those ******* STUPID LED's and "halos" in them.

I agree with chris. Also Chris, I love the e46 shrouds on there! Are those The extended version or the normal one? I plan on putting mini H1s in my stockers and I'm gonna use the extended shroud, only I'm doing some custom lighting on them. I'm gonna drill out those holes so they let light through, and put an led ring behind there to light them up.

I'm not sure to be honest.

Your Cobalt looks awesome with those headlights. I don't think I have EVER said that about anybody else's car on here before, lol.

Lol thanks, it'll look even better with the new ones on, the old ones are kinda cheap to be honest. Yours are much better projectors than my previous ones.

Retrofits provide a nicer cutoff line than the projector lights. A buddy of mine has gen 2s and the cutoff line is like something from a Dr Suess book...lol

I think the eBay projectors look so much better than retrofits. So I bought those, and am in the process of putting Morimoto Mini's into my 3rd gens. Best of both worlds.

That's why I have gen 4's

Retro's are extremely nice, though. If you've got the time to do it, I would say do it. If you're like me and don't have the time to be taking headlights apart...The eBay ones can be nice. Especially the 4th Gens since they have an extremely nice cutoff compared to the others and don't have the LED's and Halos.

Hmmm, I put Sylvania 9007's on it the first week I had the car and they both went out while I was deployed (Wife used the Balt).

Could you guys provide images of the difference in illumination between your retro vs your projectors?

I know its not possible to do side by side on the same vehicle at the same time, but maybe you have a picture of illumination with retros and picture of illumination with Gen3 projectors?

I'm going with 6000k HID + Projector and 6000k HID on the Fogs as well... I just like the way the Angel eyes and Projectors look on the car. The only downside is I can't really eye lid the housings if the projectors sit too high in the housing =(

I'm so friggin torn...

You're not going to find a fair comparison. Even if you get a good side by side, camera settings will still ruin the results.

So since Retros look like the best bet for illumination, Would it be better to go HID or Morimoto Mini Projectors or just HID?

You mean like HIDs in the stock housings? No. I mean i did it at one point and it provides more visibility than stock...but just don't do it...unless you've got a very nice flame suit...the retro police on here will hunt you down and kill you.

Morimoto Minis for sure.

Hmmmm.... I was pretty much sold on the Gen 3 Projectors with the HID upgrades but if thats true about the HIDs needing to warm up before they are at their best then I be better off getting Retros.

I want the Angel Eyes though. Its purely cosmetic but damnit they look boss on any car. I was thinking about it earlier today and I can even vinyl eyelid the retro's without it messing with the illumination.

I guess I struggle with sentence structure from time to time.

Retros > Gen 3 Projectors with HID High Beams

The question I asked is Mini's or HID in the retros.

BuyHIDs.com has what I want but Ill be paying out the ass for it since I technically have to have them do it to OEM lights (Not sending my stockers out)

Option 4: Complete Retrofit Headlights BLACK ($429.99) - We install and retrofit the projectors in stock OEM Headlights painted black.

I would also add Angel Eyes for $35.00

and his shipping rate was $35.00...

So my bottom line is $499.99 ...... Do you think he'll offer a military discount? =P
