RPM guage to go Red near redline?

This is more for fun than anything, but do you think there could be a way for the RPM gauge lighting to go red like a second before redline? I think the new mustang does this, and I thought it looked really cool.

But how would you get the lighting to switch from white to red at that moment then back after?

This would quite a complicated install. You'd have to wire into the car computers, the gauges, and since it's all intertied, it would be quite a complex project.

could you possibly get a shift light wired in and dial it about 200 rpm before your redline, then just take the positve and negative end to the led and connect that to some red leds behind the gauge face?

aftermarket shift light small enough to fit in cluster...wont look perfect/factory probably, but better than not having it at all...a step closer to the mustang

Probably the best bet.

The Mustang gauge lighting is setup way differently than a Cobalt. Mustang uses the MyColor leds that allow you to customize the gauge background and trim ring colors as a shift light.

I'd rather spend 400$ on car mods than a stupid light that tells me when to shift...

Bingo. If you know basic wiring, and use a resistor plus a relay and a resistor or two, you could have the red LED activate at X rpm.
