Rvinyl interior trim kit.
Rvinyl interior trim kit.
Well, my interior trim has began chipping/flaking......mainly the pieces on the doors around the window switches. I like the satin nickel color, but i'm kinda tired of it and was thinking about doing something different with it. At first I was thinking about trying to find some trim from a 2.2 or a G5 GT in the matte black color. But then after looking at several websites and seeing that the entire trim kits are $250+.....I changed my mind. Especially considering i'm unemployed. Either way, whatever I do, its gonna be done after I get a job....but i'm trying to keep it on a budget. Anywho, I wanted everyone's opinions on this:

Its a complete vinyl kit. And i've done business with Rvinyl before.....they custom cut and supplied my former car team's vinyls for me, so I know they're a legit brand. Anywho, they even have vinyl kits for cars like Corvettes and even the new HHR SS's.....so i'm imagining their vinyl kits are pretty damn nice if they're gonna offer them for $45,000 Corvettes. Plus, the good thing about this is it isn't un-reversable, so should I want to remove it all before I say, go to trade the car in, I can. Its just an alternate method to buying a new interior trim kit or painting it yourself, which can be risky for people who don't trust themselves to paint such things as interior trim.
For $30, its a hell of a deal. They supply MUCH more than i'd even use. The only pieces i'd use would be the pieces that cover the satin nickel painted interior trim pieces. If I do get this, i'm going to get the matte black finish.
Opinions?

Well right now I want to focus on getting opinions on the product I listed. But feel free to PM me with more details (foglights...yes or no? Condition? Pics? Price if you were to sell? etc etc...)
bump for more opinions/insight.

Do it with vinyl material bought by the yard at a fabric store. Pop off the plastic, wrap it tight and glue on the back, and pop them back on. I'm having my interior done shortly with vinyl (but soft and textured, high quality pleather) by a professional auto upholstery place. Gonna cost me 400 bones but that includes cutting up the dash, stitching, etc... you can get any type of vinyl you want with any type of finish.
you should do that. because i've seen a buddy of mine that's really good with vinyl and to me vinyl comes out way more glossy than paint could and you can change the color whenever you want. i say do it and especially if it's already pre cut for ya. why not you know?
Well, i'm sure the kit I order won't be glossy....considering I want the matte black finish, lol. But yeah, it comes pre-cut, and includes specific pieces for an SS, or and LS/LT.
Do NOT order from RKvinyl. The site is abandoned or something, I don't know. The guy that owns it used to own G5club and he pretty much fell off the face of the earth. I tried to order a vinyl overlay for a couple of the arrowheads on my car and never recieved so much as a confirmation that I ordered. I ended up having to file a Paypal claim and my money was untouched in the guy's account. There are at least 10 other people that I know of that have claims out right now on products they never recieved.
I honestly think he might have died.

What YOUR talking about: www.rkvinyl.com
Different websites man, lol.
Thats my concern too. But typically interior trim will sit inwards a slight bit, meaning its not all showing to begin with. As long as the vinyls are cut to cover the entire piece, i'm imagining it should turn out just fine.

Oh, well if you look at the product diagram, it shows that they include the pieces to cover the pieces that aren't covered in that pic. Check out the diagram to get an idea of everything they include. Its actually MUCH more than I plan on using.
Going to get my bro's input in about 6 hours, then hopefully order it, $40 CAD isn't bad at all. And no chipping!
Edit: My trim hasn't chipped but you can see black plastic behind it...
*Good find WhiteSSBalt!! Good find!*

Thanks man. If you beat me to it, be sure to get some pics up and let me know how everything goes. And yeah, unfourtunantly my trim IS chipping, which is why I started searching for other alternative options to painting the trim, which is how I found this.

Now waiting on shipping and results.
