Nobody makes G5 LED tails. So screw you, I'm making my own. I'll update this thread as I go. I got my LED panels for the swap today and HOLY FUCK I almost went blind they are bright.

Who's that? Colodude18? Price is also a big factor. I'm building these under $40. I'm looking forward to the challenge though.

chevygirl2006 Jan 16, 2015 10:12 PM

I don't know if he's on here.

Snail_SS Jan 16, 2015 10:14 PM

You'll definitely know who I am. :D And I could never mistake your paint. You on the east side? I rarely go anywhere in El Paso because I hate the people/drivers there. Inconsiderate pricks.

Snail_SS Jan 16, 2015 10:29 PM

Yeah tell me about it people drive horrible and then they make you drive like that  and i all over the place haha i live on one side of the city limit and i drive to work all the way by the outlet mall so your in el paso you should see me haha

Really? I go to the outlet mall a lot when I need gifts. Where you work? I work in Las Cruces because it is more English-speaking friendly.

Snail_SS Jan 16, 2015 10:35 PM

Well i work where all the factories are at lol so on the opposite side of the outlet. I would disclose the company but wouldn't be to smart in my part, as im at work atm lol and i know they monitor the company name for any activity

Understandable. I wish I had the time to go to shows. Then I'd fix my body damage and clean the car up. Maybe go wingless. That'll have to be my next thing.

On the down side, the 3157 adapters I had for this project won't be here till Tuesday. I was hoping to build these on Sunday but I guess that isn't going to happen.

go MacGyver and smash a bulb and use the end.

Snail_SS Jan 17, 2015 02:31 AM

Lol damn that sucks

Haha hell no. I've cut my hand badly enough trying to take a bulb out on it's own. I may also tear apart the spare tail light sockets I bought and figure something out there.

Where did you get those leds? I seen miata guys run them as headlights but obviously not red lol. I would like some for an old 73 Chevy pick for headlights since theyre round

Ebay. They are tractor trailer lights. I don't think they have clear ones on the store I was at, but a reverse light may work. These are only 4.5" though. 73 trucks used the 7" round. Check out superbrightleds.com I think they have LED headlights.

ALso for anyone wondering it has rained every day I've had off so far so I can't effing take my lights out and disassemble them or the trunk would fill with water. I'm also debating buying an alumilite setup and making replacement lenses, and maybe even clear lenses. Gonna have to see though. Vacuum chambers run $220 so this may not happen right away.

Twoozofjuice Feb 3, 2015 01:42 AM

Look like the type I have on my Sedan. adrian made them. Price was definitely less than 220.

$220 would be in the name of making clear lenses for people, not making my own tails. ;)

FINALLY a day I have off that isn't windy, rainy, or generally miserable! I cannot get the lenses out with heat so I just decided "Fuck this" and cut the housings apart. Here's where I'm at:

Definitely going to need to paint the rest of the housing...

This

Jesse Feb 14, 2015 07:32 PM

Sport red tintcoat. Really the black paint is there to hide all my mistakes but I have wanted tinted tails for a long time so win-win

royce777 Feb 14, 2015 08:00 PM

i think if you painted just the rubber ring gloss black it would have looked better. but looks good dude. I been trying to find a used set g5 tails for years to custom tails. I just gave up

Thanks! Like I said I made some pretty good mistakes at the expense of the chrome that needed to be covered up with paint. Same here. If I ever find a set that isn't $200 I'm probably going to buy a vacuum chamber and some resin casting stuff and make extras. Maybe even some clear ones.
