The "Screw you I want LED tails" thread.

Nobody makes G5 LED tails. So screw you, I'm making my own. I'll update this thread as I go. I got my LED panels for the swap today and HOLY **** I almost went blind they are bright.

I gave the light 12V and pointed it about 8ft away and this is what I get:

Who's that? Colodude18? Price is also a big factor. I'm building these under $40. I'm looking forward to the challenge though.

You'll definitely know who I am. And I could never mistake your paint. You on the east side? I rarely go anywhere in El Paso because I hate the people/drivers there. Inconsiderate ******.

Really? I go to the outlet mall a lot when I need gifts. Where you work? I work in Las Cruces because it is more English-speaking friendly.

Understandable. I wish I had the time to go to shows. Then I'd fix my body damage and clean the car up. Maybe go wingless. That'll have to be my next thing.

On the down side, the 3157 adapters I had for this project won't be here till Tuesday. I was hoping to build these on Sunday but I guess that isn't going to happen.

Haha hell no. I've cut my hand badly enough trying to take a bulb out on it's own. I may also tear apart the spare tail light sockets I bought and figure something out there.

Ebay. They are tractor trailer lights. I don't think they have clear ones on the store I was at, but a reverse light may work. These are only 4.5" though. 73 trucks used the 7" round. Check out superbrightleds.com I think they have LED headlights.

ALso for anyone wondering it has rained every day I've had off so far so I can't effing take my lights out and disassemble them or the trunk would fill with water. I'm also debating buying an alumilite setup and making replacement lenses, and maybe even clear lenses. Gonna have to see though. Vacuum chambers run $220 so this may not happen right away.

$220 would be in the name of making clear lenses for people, not making my own tails.

FINALLY a day I have off that isn't windy, rainy, or generally miserable! I cannot get the lenses out with heat so I just decided "**** this" and cut the housings apart. Here's where I'm at:

Definitely going to need to paint the rest of the housing...

Thanks! Like I said I made some pretty good mistakes at the expense of the chrome that needed to be covered up with paint. Same here. If I ever find a set that isn't $200 I'm probably going to buy a vacuum chamber and some resin casting stuff and make extras. Maybe even some clear ones.
