would it be pointless to buy carbon fiber products such as a cf hood and a carbon fiber blade for the high rise spoiler? i want to buy some carbon fiber but i think cars that not black would be more proper, cars thats red, white, or blue

I made a thread about this too.. I finally came to the conclusion that I'm not a fan of CF on a black car.. I think colored cars pull it off way way way better.

youre asking other people if carbon fiber is worthwhile as an appearance mod on a black car? OK, Ill play. Yes it is, since obviously youre buying it for the looks and status (to show you can afford CF) Id say do it, makes you look baller.

He means painting the car white. lol. fail on your part.

And maven.. CF makes you look baller? I beg to differ. I don't think it looks good on black either. Makes it look like just a dirty black car from many different angles.. You have to look at it just right to appreciate how it looks.. When it's on a color it's much more of a contrast and it looks much better IMO.

I disagree with all of you. Believe me I get it carbon fiber looks cool in some applications. But baller to have carbon fiber? I doubt anyone is going to look at a $500 hood or a $400 trunk an say that guy must be a baller.... Most likely they are going to think it looks cheap... I personally think its all crap... Extremely fast and furious.... If anyone is buying the carbon fiber for wieght reduction you might as well paint it instead of pasting a huge sign on the car saying "my car is now 50lbs lighter!"

The weight difference from a OEM hood and trunk to carbon fibers is not only pointless for a daily driver, but for $900 you can make the car faster if that is your objective or spend it on a whole **** ton of more important things.

To each his own. But seriously spend your money on something worth while...

Agreed, I'm not a big fan of carbon fiber it just looks unfinished in my eyes... almost like if your trunk and hood where primer.

carbon fiber only looks good when cleared, sanded down with 1000 and cleared again. this way it looks extremely deep. the so called uv protectant clear makes the carbon fiber look cheap and it will yellow after time hense why when i get my stuff its getting painted. its all souly for weight reduction and not an apperance mod

No I dont think CF looks baller, I dont really have an issue with it one way or another, but the average person thinks its a sign of importance or value. Thats why so much CF is sold with a glossy clearcoat, so you can see what it is, if it wasnt desirable it wouldnt matter that other people saw that you had it. Take fiberglass, fiberglass parts can look just as "cool" as CF does but do you see anyone running around selling or talking about fiberglass weave parts? No, because it doesnt have that status or desirability, because it isnt perceived as rare or expensive.

Need further proof of CF's position as a status symbol or "baller" item? Ever seen a fake carbon fiber product? I know you have....what was your reaction? not positive right? Everyone talks down on the fake carbon stuff, tells people to get the real **** etc........So lets think about this, if it wasnt a desirable item that was deemed a status symbol there wouldnt be fakes now would there? If it wasnt a status symbol and the whole point was just because it looked nice and wasnt otherwise desirable then everyone would be psyched about ll the fake CF because alot of them look pretty badass, often better than the real deal, but since youre just trying to "look" like you have CF and didnt buy the real thing you get bashed and talked **** too....

sigh....just like springs, such a shame that so many people consider cf to be an appearance mod instead of a performance mod....

i think there are times when appearance and performance walk hand i hand, why are my calipers yellow? well they work great, but they look good too. Why did i buy a CF trunk? it looks nice, but it feels like it weighs a third of what the stock trunk did.

It all depends on how you look at things.

Imo CF looks great, but only when done with tasteful applications. i don't like Cf splashed all over the car, just where it counts.

depends on the part, but a CF hood can easily weigh half or less what a stock one does.

CF is performance mod. For a total performance minded person, replacing CF parts for OEM parts is icing on the cake. Motor, suspension, and trans upgrade and then CF. Just buying a piece here and there. Like they said.. depends on the part, and some are critical on "weight reduction" but every little bit helps. -100lbs for .1 in the quarter. Guy in town tore most of his interior out. Lost well over 200 lbs. with a CF hood. Total reduction is not complete, but if you want a race car I say go for it.

Just mix some black with some clear and spray the carbon parts. It will blend nicely on a black car. You cant tell its carbon until you get up close and look at it. IMO its the only way to make carbon look good on a black car.

You realize that hood is probably $2,000+?

You get what you pay for, and nobody with a cobalt will pay that much for a hood.

Frankly I would leave the car stock appearance-wise. It is one of very few imperial blue SS sedans on the road.
