Shift boot question!

Ok, I am currently dressing up the inside. I am getting a leather e-break boot from redlinegoods.com along with a new handle, and I was wanting to get a matching shift boot. But my shift knob can't come off. (It kept coming off, dealer wanted an arm and a leg for a new one, so I glued it back on) But all the tutorials say to take it off. Is there any way to replace the boot without taking off the knob?

You can cut it. I really don't think there is a way without ruining it. That shift knob is a bitch to get off. I still haven't been able to get mine off.

Mine WON'T come off. No matter what I do I have no problem cutting the old one off. But I'd have to cut the new one also? Damn, that sucks. I AM NOT doing that I'm not cutting a Real Italian Leather shift boot.

My problem was, It wouldn't stop coming off. lol. So I used JB weld to make sure it wouldn't pop off again. Now It come off at all. it dosent seem hard to take it off. http://www.redlinegoods.com/Cobalt0507install.shtm

Well some of the shift knobs had a screw under the silver plate but then others don't but whatyou could do it take out the shifter and slide it from the bottom
