shift knob and headlights
Hey guys. Just a few questions.
1. I have the auto. Yeah... I know. STFU. lol. Anyway, the auto has the little button that you have to press to shift in most cases. Well, I don't want to do that. lol. I've driven many autos without a button (I'm a valet), and it's so much better. Especially when shifting between D and I. I noticed that when I took my knob off and tried replacing it with a non-button one (one I had laying around from my last car that was a stick) and it needed the button to move. So obviously pressing the button pushed something down, allowing the shifter to move. Is there any way of changing this to allow a non-button knob? I tried searching, to no prevail.
2. I've seen a few new Cobalts at the dealership without the amber circle behind the corner bulb. I think it looks much cleaner. Should I try to remove the amber surround myself using the DIY method, or just look into changing them out / swapping them entirely?
3. Anyone know where to get a color of paint that very closely matches the silver on the SS dash? The inside door handle are on mine is starting t ochip, and if I replace my radio, I want to paint-to-match the dash kit.
Thanks!!

I would say to buy the headlights that you like. I've heard that taking that amber piece out is a pain. I'm not sure if you have to open the housing up, but if you do, you may have problems with them fogging up or getting condensation in them as well. May be worth buying the ones you want to prevent frustration and problems down the road.
Those dash pieces that are chipping, you can get them replaced under warranty, I did and so have a some other members here. If you want the paint, I would just ask your dealership.

I already tried asking and there was no specific paint code for that. Maybe I could take one of the trim pieces off (when I got to replace my radio) and take it to my paint place and see if he can whip me up something close.
Not a bad idea either. I was thinking, I'm not sure how close of a match the interior pieces are to the Ultra Silver Metallic that is offered for the Cobalt's exterior, but if it is close, you could pick up the GM Color Matched Spray Paint. Just a thought.

Yeah. Sorta thought about that. I'll see what that guy says and go from there. I couldn't put up with that black dash kit on my silver dash for more than a week. I'd drive me insane. lol.
I'm not sure about the knob, but for the paint, I bought some of that Krylon Fusion plastic paint to paint my front bowtie. I wanted a silver color and it matches very closely to the interior dash trim.
