shifter knob

some guys may think Im crazy or a little weird for wanting to do this but I have grown up around old school muscle...I was wondering how to get the shifter knob off of my 5 spd cause I would like to put the old style Hurts T handle on it. Any help would be appreciated.

twist the end of the boot to the left (make sure your twisting the ring under the boot not the boot it self) and then pull up like hell and it should come off. if you have an ss it MIGHT be different but seeing that you have a 08 it should be the same

thanks for the help...I popped it off quick but found out that it is not threaded. Not sure if the Hurst will work on it but will keep you posted.

Managed to get it figured out...my dad has a tap and die set and I managed to get the shifter threaded. I went away from the T handle and got a pistol grip instead. Actually looks pretty cool, just the armrest gets in the way of easy shifting to the gears on the bottom side (2nd and 4th) cause of the way you grip the shifter...something I can live with though.

it wasnt hard to install at all. the biggest issue I thought I would have with getting the threads on it was the stick not being completely rounded...its a half with a flat front. the knob comes with 6 adapters I believe to make it compatable with standard or metric threads. I chose the 1/2 20 standard thread and used a tap and die set. its all simple stuff you can get at your local auto parts. I dont think the T handle would look to bad except for leaving a little bit larger gap between the handle and the shifter boot. In all I would say it took less than 5 minutes to do the whole job....spent more time in lone at the auto parts buying the knob than I did putting it on
