How do you do it. Is there another antenna you have to buy or What's the deal here.

Yes you can buy them! make sure its the right one for your year of car then you can just unscrew your old one and screw the new one on.

autozone sells a replacement 6"/1' rubber shorty for like $8. You just unscrew your old one and screw this one back in.

if its really hard to twist off (like you cant do it with your hand) the open the trunk and remove the screw from the trunk liner near your tail light and hold the antenna base (so you dont snap it off like I did) while using a wrench to loosen it. simple stuff

pack of 4 vacume caps cost $2 and then you just take some extra wire laying around and run your antena to you chassie and you get some reception some times lol
