spoiler removal

a friend did this photoshop image for me, so now i definitely want to get rid of the spoiler.. its the only thing about the car i dont like. We tried to take it off but its held on by some super adhesive. Anyone have any clue how to get it off? I guess im going to have to pay a body shop to rip it off and repaint. blah.

isnt it actually bolted on ?
and you'd have holes to fill once removed ?

yes it has 4 bolts, but also they used some sort of melted plastic/adhesive thing to hold it on and man we tried.. it WILL NOT come off without some SERIOUS pressure.. so i just decided to leave it and go talk to a body shop.

You may be able to try getting it off yourself with a blow dryer or heat gun to soften up the glue. It's the same basic procedure for removing moldings...the ol' heat 'n' pull. Though with something as big as a spoiler you may need two people to do it: one to hold the heat source and one to pull the spoiler. Once it's off, then just use adhesive remover or alcohol to get the trunk clean. If you don't want to fill the holes, you could just drop in the spoiler from the LS coupes. I believe both spoilers use the same holes.

its super adhesive double sided tape, a blow dryer will take care of that.........but what will you do with the 4 bolt holes?

If i were you i would wait to take it off... im sure in the next few months there will be small aftermarket wings like a drag that will be designed to fill the stock holes.

body shop wants $500 to take it off and refinish it. screw that. i might try to hair dryer method and see if it will get hot enough to melt the glue.

Dude! Do it for free! Just find someone with a black coupe with no spoiler and swap trunk lids. (or do they all have the spoiler??)

Yes they are. My local dealer has been installing SS wings on ls cobalt coupes to try to help sell them. The fit the SAME holes as the factory low style wing.

I seen that too. I thought a SS flew by me the one day. It was a sedan with an SS wing. I laughed sooooo hard. It looked so out of place.

I've also seen dealerships take coupes and put on silver cars black striping on the side and down the middle and change the rims to chrome and put in black lettering "COBALT GT" on it.

I was like oh no.....Just like the days with the Beretta's and 2nd Gen Cavailers

The dealer where I got my SS/SC said that the LS spoiler IS NOT a direct replacement on the SS/SC. They told me that I would have to drill new holes and have the originals filled and it would be cheaper to go out and get a 3rd party spoiler and have it painted to match instead. I was planning on buying the LS spoiler and keeping the SS/SC spoiler around for when I sell the car years from now, I guess my dealer didn't want to make the extra money.

Got that beat

At the dealership that i picked up my SS from they had a yellow ls with a body kit lower then my SS some weird 4 lug rims with the SS spoiler and a dual exhaust. When I walked up I did a double take. Then i noticed the brakes.....drums in the rear. I shuddered to think some idiot is going to walk in there and think hs getting an SS and BAM guess what sucker you bought something else. the package came to a total of $4700 so this ls cost almost as much as my ride. Silver SS with XM, Onstar, sunroof, and most importantly Side curtain head airbags.
