Spray on tint for tail lights?

It's out there, but I hear with a good layer of clear coat on top that they can actually last quite awhile. Anyone out there given this a shot?

VHT niteshade. wet sand with 2000 or 1500 grit, spray on in LIGHT COATS until desired darkness. i did 2 medium coats and got runs in the first so i had to sand them out. i sanded in between each coat. then i cleared with 2 medium coats (sanding between each coat) and polished them. been about a month of salty roads (as you can see in the pictures) and car washes. i have no peeling or anything along those lines

It's called VHT nightshades, can be picked up at any autozone. It looks ok if you do it correctly, and are a pro with a rattle can and wetsanding/buffing. However, if you don't want full blackout, it usually doesn't turn out as good, as its not a very "even" paint. It's kinda "cloudy" too so it doesn't let as much light through as doing it the professional way. The professional way is to mix clear and black and spray it out of a real spray gun. The end result is this.

looks much darker in person. Perfect imo. dark, but not too dark where you get pulled over all the time. These are mine btw.

meh VHT nightshades is good stuff, as long as you follow up wit clear coat.

I did about 4coats of nightshades(it really isnt THAT dark), then I folllowed up with 6cooats of clear(I had a weekend to do this lol).

I then wet-sanded with 1000->2000 gritt sand paper until all Orange peel was gone and porceeded to buff.

They look black, but still transparent, its awsome, the sanding/polishing made them balck but still clear and they look pro, you just gotta take your time and do it right.

i recently just did my sidemarkers over.
i didnt wetsand when i started. i just cleaned them up real good than sprayed about 3 coats of nightshade on them than i cleared. i just used dupicolor automotive clear that i got at napa.
than i wetsanded with 2000 gritt paper and buffed them with maguires ultimate compound.

here are the end results.

the glare of the light made it look red but its as black as i want it.

also here are my tails.

I think tinted looks better... dont like the blacked out. And I think the pro painted ones look better. Ive down the VHT and it does the job and can look good (not great).
