No, I was just saying it would look better if we did have an SS emblem on the wheel. It would look better on our wheels too to have SS instead of a bowtie. I love the bowtie, but the gold doesn't go with every color of car. they need red black and silver ones.

I checked out the malibu ss today and its SS badge in the center of the wheel is bigger than ours by almost a 1/2 inch. Looks like a 1/4 on each side. I didn't have a ruler, I used my finger. It is bigger. My buddy said if one got into an accident it was all mine.

Glad to see that it doesn't set off the airbag.

Now to use that as a template to make a new one.

good job finding that out, so all we need now is for someone to make us a direct replacement for there

~or , how bout calling the dealer and asking of the SS steering wheel logo from either the Malibu SS , Monte SS or Impala SS is available for purchase separate from the airbag .

Also , look for any of those cars wrecked with a popped bag . I bet a salvage yard would be happy to make $20 on a blown airbag , seeing as how they are useless and get throw away .

Do any of you know what a airbag is? leave it alone or suffer the possible consequenses for your actions, air bags are safety devices and are not to be modified. It would be funny to see a SS tatoo in someones forehead though!

Sorry, I can't help with your dilemma, but I am wondering why you want to remove it....I've been a diehard Chevy fan my entire life, and am more than proud to wear a Chevy emblem on my steering wheel. In gold, to boot! Hell, I'd wear one on my ass, too, but that already gets enough attention, thank ya

Chevy. Yeah, baby.

I bet the reason that it won't go back on the same is that those metal pieces were bent to hold the symbol on. It might be the best idea to unhook the battery and remove the steering wheel. The airbag should come off with the steering wheel and be easily and safely removed from there....making it easy to replace the piece.

Given this seems like a little much to modify the emblem it might be the only way to replace it and maintain a stock look without taking the risk of painting it inside the car..

Hey man, its your ride, make it unique. i like it. personally, i would have left in the factory head unit... the silver would have looked good surrounded by red. just my opinion. nice ride though.

Here my fix for the goldness . I took aluminum repair tape and just covered the god portions . I left the polished perimeter of the bowtie uncovered . Then , since the alumium repair tape is real aluminum , I lightly sanded with 800 grit alum. oxide paper so it looks like brushed aluminum . Its a nice contrast between the silver background , the polished bowtie perimeter , with a brushed center .

Cost $3.99 and LOTS of patience and a steady hand with a exacto knife . I just layed the tape over the entire logo and outlined the bowtie with a exacto blade and peeled the excess off .
