Sylvania Silverstar Bulbs

So I went out and bought a pair of Sylvania Silverstar lights since I'm not messing with HID...

I have to say I'm a tad disappointed. I couldn't notice a huge difference from my stock halogens. There might be a little gain... but it doesn't seem like much. I didn't get to take it back out and go for a drive to test them (I have a headache after learning how to take out the headlights for the first time), but hopefully I'll notice a difference on the road.

Anyone else have these? Any input? Or does anyone have a better bulb to suggest? No HID please.

Silver stars suck ass i had them in my old car and they would burn out in less then 6 months. Get the bulbs they sell at best buy, they are brighter and last longer.

Funny story... I bought those for my parents car last year. The high beams lasted (still in there). The low beams burnt out within 2 months.

I am very disappointed in the Silverstars. I might go buy the ones at BB... about $20 cheaper.

I put APC (stop laughing) Super Whites on my Dakota and my lights were a good bit brighter. Good thing too because my stock lights sucked and were rather dim. Cost $30 if I remember right. I have been running them for two years now and would buy them again.

i put em in just as a temporary thing before HID's. they give off more of a white than yellow light, you have to really try to notice

I love them

I went from stock bulbs (yellowy white) to Xenon "Fake" HID lights (they were blueish) and then I went to the silverstars.. Man if you can't notice a different, then I don't know what to say other then get your eyes check .... These give out alot more of a pure white shine over the stock headlights.. I drive alot of dark roads and man I notice the difference on how much more of the road is lighted up and also how much better you can see cause the lights are brighter due to there clearness..

I dunno I would recommend them.... But they are cost me $70CDN from a local parts store (Canadian Tire)..

Its strange to hear bad about silverstars as I used to live by them. All the cars my family owns that aren't HID, we have silverstars in. Pure white. I reccomend them.

I ran silverstars in my dodge truck. 2 sets. each set lasted less than 4 months AND the left and right side burned out within 5 days of each other. Both times. NEVER AGAIN!!!!

Seems like mixed opinions.

Don't get me wrong... they are bright. I just didn't notice much of a difference over the stock halogens. Maybe I'm just tricked by the pure white light instead of any blue tint. And yes, I know color has no bearing on visbility (it's only the temp. of light). I'll definitely find out when I drive home from work later and see them on the dark roads. I'm hoping they last... they were $40 from Advance Auto.

Sylvania also makes a set of blue painted lights.

They're called "cool blue" I think. Should be right next to the silver stars, and about $8 cheaper. Those are the onse you should get if you're looking for the blue color, siverstars aren't supposed to be blue.

Neither are HID's really. They look blue for the same reason the sky does, blue light scatters off the lexan. Others are just painted to imitate that look.

I've had my silverstars for over a year, and they still look great to me. Look for the difference in the road lines and steet signs, the white and yellow stripes should look a lot brighter and a lot more true color. If you don't see a difference on the street, it might be because of the nasty orange glow from those awful low-temp sodium bulbs they use in streetlamps now.

If you have a beef with the price check out Walmart, they stock Silverstars I got mine for $25.

Ok... I actually got to see the lights on the road tonight. They are brighter. I'm not a huge fan of the blue lights anyway. I just couldn't see the difference last night. I can definitely tell now though. They are pretty good. I might change them to a different brand if these ones burn out... just to try something different. But yeah... better than the Best Buy xenons.

On another note... there is nothing in my manual about the fog lamps. Anyone know what the stock fog lamps take? My old grand prix took 880s... but I didn't know if these were H3s or not. Plus... how do you get to them? I'm thinking after you take the headlamp assembly out, you can reach down to the fogs. Anyone messed with them yet?

Best Buy's aren't on their website or anything. I don't remember the name... but they are in the Car Audio section of the store. They aren't as bright as Silverstars. They were very blue.

PIAA is supposedly amazing. I've heard nothing but good things about them... I just didn't want to spend that much money on lights (also why I'm not doing HID). Hella sounds like they might be good... I would hope so for the price. They were about $10 more than Silverstars.

I'm not so sure about those lights you linked to. I've never heard of them. The temperature looks good though... they will be bright white, not blue. They actually should be pretty close to the Silverstars.

I got some silverstar lights for my 2001 S10 truck, when I traded the truck in in 2003 I took em out and put them in my new 2003 S10 truck.

They lasted me for 4+ years...

I put silverstars in my Cobalt and they are fine...

the PIAA lights were extremely bright, but they burned out in 3 months. didn't really notice much of a dropoff going to silverstars after i was left with highs only on the PIAA extreme whites.
