Are there any after market tail lights that are DOT approved?

just get which ever ones you think look good, you're not gonna get pulled over for aftermarket tail lights as long as they are working.

Department of Transportation aka "DOT" is for safety related things like helmets.

DOT also approves OEM lighting applications, aka headlights and tail lights.

My bad folks lol, no joke the only reason why I asked is because even some after market headlights have that DOT number on the side of the head light. I was only thinking that aftermarket tails would be the same. Not trying to insult or troll just telling the truth. Also the second reason is because I got pulled over for my tinted tail lights in Texas. I looked up the law involving tail lights in Texas and any tail light that's tinted no matter the percent of tint is not approved in TX bunch of Bs if you asked me.

not really, tinted tails reduce visibility, and when not professionally done (nightshades) a lot of light can be blocked. If you get rear ended with tinted tails (or in pretty much any wreck) a lot of insurance companies can deny your insurance, and you will be at fault automatically. All they have to do is say "I couldn't see his tail lights"

I know some states do have tint laws, even OEM tint is considered illegal. Most taillights DOT approved or not wont get you in trouble with the law mainly due to the fact that unless the officer pulls out your lights he will not know the difference.

True if you look at it that way, my lights are professionally tinted, I have VLEDs for more visability. But if you look at it in DPS point of view not just accidents but only if your vehicle is parked late at night in the dark and the rear is tinted. Tint reduces the reflectiveness of the tail lights. Anyways there so cool to have and keep a black bolt looking stealth black but I want to avoid another pull over like that plus I think that trooper was so bored. He was sitting at the same spot in the morning and got pulled over by the same guy still there at the darn gas stations. I guess if your that bored and the end of the month is approaching and all.

I would try putting the stock bulbs back in. PNP led bulbs really are not a improvement over a halogen bulb, as much as you might hope it to be. Stock halogen bulbs utilize the reflector better and will output more light. Only way to make leds brighter is to use a full custom made led array with a high quality led such as superfluxes. But if the guy is gonna harass you everday like that, then ya, I would just switch to another set of tails. Check out the led tails that are sold on ebay, they're pretty bright and look good imo.

I threw aftermarket taillights on my moms Camry back in the day....they were dot approved. Proper tail lights is safety, I'm pretty sure they just pulled niteshades off the shelf, well around here anyway
