Tail light lenses
Tail light lenses
I'm taking my apart tonight...I planned on baking them at 275 for about 10 min...that sound about right? Then to get them back together, I have to make sure all the old stuff is off, and then re-seal it using any kind of silicone?
IF YOUR GOING TO BAKE THEM AT THAT TEMP YOU WILL MELT THEM !
IF YOUR GOING TO PUT THEM IN AN OVEN TURN THE OVEN TO THE LOWEST POSSIBLY TEMP YOU CAN . PUT THEM IN AND PULL THEM OUT EVERY 5 MINS AND TRY TO SEPERATE THEM.BE CAREFUL CASUE THE OGER THEY ARE IN THE OVEN IN THE HEAT, THE WILL WARP AND DISTORT WHILE YOUR HOLDING THEM TRYING TO GET THEM APPART.
I DID MINE WHEN I DID A LIGHT CONVERSION.HERE IS THE LINK TO HOW I DID MINE.A LITTLE OFF TOPIC BUT THE IDEA IS THERE.GOOD LUCK MAN

Lol...I'm like...what did I do to deserve being yelled at haha. Ok...so lowest temp. for 5 minutes at a time. Sounds easy enough. To get them back together any kind of sealant is fine right?
LOL , IF I WAS YELLING , I WOULD HAVE BEEN SWEARING ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE POST LOL
I HAVE TO USE CAPS WHILE IM AT WORK.ALL MY PROGRAMS WONT WORK WITH LOWER CASE SO I LEAVE THE CAPS ON ALL DAY.
I Just Uised A Bodyshop Supply Seam Sealer In White.you Can Get Them Anywhere But Really Any Sealent Should Do.even From Home Depot Or Lowes.you Just Need Something That Is Waterproof And Has A Good Dry Time.
And Corvette Style Tails...what Did You Have In Mind?

No...I mean tail lights. Corvette tail lights have 4 lights in the back...just like us...except only 2 of ours actually work. I'm making it so that all 4 work.

Thanks bro! I'm thinking about doing a How-To on it. All the How-Tos on here don't say how to wire them up for turn signals. One of them is your way, and the other has them light up with the brakes, but no turn. I don't know...you think anyone would be interested?
Should Be , Look At My Right Up For The Wiring To The Lights.i Cant Rember If I Posted About The Other Wires Or Not
I Know I Would Be Interested And I Dont Even Have My Balt Anymore Lol

Actually you can get away with putting the tail lights in the oven at around 200 for ten minutes. If you do it the other way it takes longer and there is also a good chance to break the plastic lens. I have taken a few sets apart so I have learned the hard way.
So put them in for 10 minutes and then just twist them apart. Will I need to put them back in the oven again? This won't melt them will they? I don't want distorted lenses.

Hey guys...I need some help quick. I'm trying to get my inner tail lights apart...I've been baking them. First at 200 for ten minutes and then pulling them out...nothing...then at 225 and nothing. It's now 45 minutes later...every time I take them out of the oven to try and twist them, it's like the sealant isn't even budging. I now have the oven at 250...I don't know what else to do!! HELP!!
Bump!

If you leave them in long enough the should just pull apart but that will take a little more than 10 minutes. In your case it probably wont hurt if you pull them out of the oven every 10 minutes and try to pull them apart. I don't think that twisting will get you anywhere so just start pulling around the outer edge. It wont melt or distort the lens.
