Tail light tinting!
True might still do it..on my mustang I had 13% tint and only got pulled over once for the tint and i think I only go pulled over because it was 3am and the cop had nothing else to do..he made a U turn just to pull me over for the tint. But when it comes to tails don't know how strict the cops are.
my .02 -- check on the longivity of the RC paint...will it last in direct sunlight? Might be fine for RC cars that don't sit in the weather for days, weeks, months and years. Not trying to discourage you -- might to be a nice option...just make sure it will last a while in the weather.
Could help...only way to find out is try it.
I have one more piece of advice....check out Duplicolor "Metalcast" (I get at Autozone) -- there is a red anodizing paint that is clear red and you can use it to get a red smoked effect -- darker with more coats. I used it on my Alteeza lights and was surprized at how well it lays down and looks.

Not the best camera shot, but here is a picture of my tails. Remember, this is painted over clear lenses so if you use it over red lenses it will be even darker. The centers may look light but that is because you are seeing the chrome inside shining through. Look at how dark red the outside lights are without the chrome shining through:

The chrome underneath "plays" with the camera -- I've never gotten a good camera shot of the taillights even before metalcasting them. In person they look way better than the camera makes them look because of this.
Before -- same problem:
