take a high grit sandpaper, dip it in water, and sand down the lights.. pour some water over the lights before you sand it down though, and BOOM, thats wet sanding..
Then rinse and remove all the debris off of the lights and apply 3-4 coats of clear coat... just go to home depot and find a guy working by the paint area for clear coat and hel point it out for ya.

wet sanding involes a special kind of sand paper, not just a high grit. The sandpaper is usually black, but they can also be other colors. The concept is that you want to keep the paper wet and the area wet while you work. So keep a bucket full of water near by, when sanding. But pretty much what cobaltguy said, but you need a special type of paper to do it.
