I'm bored and wanted to see how something would look.



I don't have photoshop, just gimp. its a decent program for being free and all, but its a pain to use and thats as close as i can match the colors. if anyone with photoshop wants the origional to play with i'll gladly give it out, but i'm not asking for anything.

does anyone know if there is a paint that matches the color of the upper piece? I have 4 doors to do, so if its not a perfect match I think it would look awful.

any thoughts?

 

ive messed around with the same idea in photoshop. ill post pics in a min. no idea about paint matching though

if i go through with it im leaning more toward doing the first one, where almost the whole panel is black.

 

^^^ that would look awesome if the door sills were dark too, then it would be just the lower part of the dash and interior cloth that is the light gray color.

 

I think the whole thing is too much, and I wouldn't want to paint the cloth part either, although that does look pretty good.

I don't know why they left the doors grey on the cars with the black trim.

 

you dont repaint the cloth, you recover it, its not too hard to do either

take a look at my VHT Vinyl Dye thread i just did something similar. I personally like it a lot better than stock

 

I am working on getting the whole interior black, got it all done except the seats and the side panels in the back because the bolt holding the seat belts on is impossible to take off, and with out taking it off you cannot take out the back panels. I will get pics tonight or tomorrow.

That looks really good but how did you get the panels in the back off to paint them? And where did you get the orange paint. I have looked every where and no one has it.

 

To get the back panel off you have to take a screw driver and flip open the cover for the seatbelt. Under that there is a big bolt that takes a big torque (star) bit. Fair warning this thing is in very tight and I had to use a breaker bar to loosen it. After that there is a little round plastic piece above the seat belt that pops out and reveals another torque (star) bit, i believe this one was a T15.

Once you remove that the piece is loose, however you have to take off the rear pillar cover to get the one you want off because they interlock. To get that one off it will have a little round plastic piece like the one about the seatbelt however this one has nothing behind it and only reveals a hole so you can use it to grip onto to pull it off; its held in with clips.

Now with the rear pillar piece off you can pull the panel that you want off; its held by clips. I think there are 2 or 3 that go up under the headliner so be aware of them so you dont yank your headliner off. If you have trouble with either piece i found it is easier to get it them off if you fold the rear seat down.

For the paint you have to go to the dealership to get it. They may have it on hand but if not they can order it for you. I believe it runs around $10 for a 12 oz can. I actually had a buddy of mine that does painting for a living paint my trim.

 

looks good what did you use to do the cloth part though?

 

I used duplicolor vinyl/fabric dye on the fabric of the armrests and then used krylon fusion on the plastic parts

 

very nice! I'm not sure about the orange, but still nicely done (but dude, lose the steering wheel cover) i'll have to do some spray paint hunting to see if i can find a match for the grey I have. I think there is a little cover on the bottom side of the steering wheel area that i can pull off to match colors with. any issues with removing the door panels I should be aware of?(i've done it many times before on different cars, but sometimes there is a curve ball thrown in to keep things interesting) why didn't you do the door handle areas?

 

The only thing to look out for on the doors is the little spring thing in the handle, make sure you remember how to put it back on. And if you have manual windows the metal retainer clip thing can be a pain. I'm sure its nothing you haven't messed with before.

looks nice, haha i think we should add a side note to this thread, anyone who posts pics with painted panels/sills needs to add what kind of paint/dye they used to do them

 

I use Dupli-Color Vinyl and Fabric spray coating...
When you use it on fabric it makes it a little stiff depending on how many coats you give it.
