Though on spacers

I just got my SSC Springs this week and the car looks nice.

Now, I was thinking on spacers to make the car look wider... I made a search about them but couldn't find nothing that interests me. It goes from people who buy them cause of brembos to people who buy new wheels with spacer need.

I'd like to know if some people run them just for the appearance, what size do you have, did you change your studs and if I need any more information about them.

Where did you buy them with the price please!

If its possible, post me some picture of them on the car!

Thanks

You may or may not need longer lugs. It depends on the wheels and the width of the spacer. How thick are you talking? Post up some pics of what it looks like now.

Stock wheels you could prob get away with spacers without longer studs.

Not more than 10mm I'd say. Anymore I'd get longer studs.

I wish someone that has already done it would help me, I guess I might just be one of the first to do this.

Spacers are used mostly on cars that are trying to obtain this "hellaflush" look. On hondas no more than 10mm on stock studs. I'm not sure on cobalts. Try it out.

I don't mind changing the studs, I will measure and see what I need, but I don't think it's less than 10mm. Looks more like 15. But Eibach do sell some spacers with another set of studs on the spacers, so you bolt the spacer on the hub and the wheel on the spacer, that's what I might just buy. Around 160$ a pair.

To be totaly sure, should I just go to a store that sells cheap spacers of 3mm and just put as much as I need and then just count the total mm used instead of measuring it with a tape or something?

If you want to do a mock up you could put some washers on between the brake disk and wheel. Don't drive around like that obviously but it would let you see if you have enough thread sticking out to get a few turns on the lug nut.

3mm is fine on factory studs. anything more there just isn't enough thread contact with the lugs to be safe. also. the stock offset is a +42, every mm the space is wide, subtract that from the offset. and that way you can compare it to other peoples wheels. so lets say you found someone with a 18x7 wheel with a +35 offset that you thought looked good, then get a 7mm spacer.

Just get longer studs. They're really easy to swap on the 5 bolt Cobalts. 4 bolts are a little more difficult but I can do it in under 5 minutes now with as many as I've changed.

do you have to remove the hubs to change the studs or is there enough room to hammer them out and pull the new ones back in without taking the hub off?

5mm is the biggest I would go on the stock studs. I put a set on mine just to see, and I couldn't even tell. Needs at least 10mm in the front, probably 15mm in the rear. However, I wouldn't have driven on them, there were very few threads available. I have the equivalent of an LT, btw.

make sure the spacers are hubcentric or you will be busting the studs and watching your wheels keep on rolling while you come to a quick stop.
