Thoughts on backlighting .

Ive driven my SS 72K miles now , some of the dash lights are starting to go out . I thought maybe it'd be a good time to make small changes ...gotta do sumthing , small stuff like lights out bother me . What do yall think about the red backlighting . If I did it , it wouldnt be the red/orange like pontiac , it'd be true red leds like Audi . Also if I did that , I would switching out the 90's microwave oven color displays in the DIC and Radio with Solstice DIC panel and radio display that is lit up white .

Man , it would be alot of soldering especially swapping out the display panels in the radio and DIC . I think it would be worth it . What do u guys think ?

Kinda reminds me of the interior of a VW Jetta/ beetle with the red, just the blueish purple is missing. Good luck to u though.

105.9 The Bear?

I thought it was 98.9?

Has anyone figured out how to change the radio and DIC readout color? I want to change mine to red. I know there's a way without swapping the cluster or the radio.

Someone has to be an electronic guru on here.

EDIT: looks like a colored film would work best...let me know if anyone finds out an alternative method!

Up here we have 103.9 "the bear" , 98.9 is owned by the same people . The one down there is better though , ours only plays Sixx AM ...gotta love corporate radio stations

The color of the chevy display makes it had to add a filter and still beable to see it during the day . I put a red one on mine , while u could see it fine at night ....the red filter had to be so dark to actually make red that during the day u could barely see it at all . Unless u want it blue'er or a pinkish red , the only feasible way is to desolder the chevy displays and solder in displays off a different color . Better be good at soldering though , the solder joints are tiny and reeeal close together and about 50 pins per display . Definately would need a solder sucker to pull the solder completely off the circuit board cleanly and a tiny tip on your solder gun to be a precise as u need to be .

What u can use ....GM has no red version of our displays
2007 radio display
Amber ....06-up saturn vue , 06-up Ion , 07-up Aura , 07-up Sky
Green....07-up Saab 9-3
White....06-up Solstice

Cluster DIC panel

Amber...Sky and Aura
White... 06-up solstice

I researched and researched, and came up with nothing.

It sounds like I'm sticking with what I have! lol

Only Sixx AM?

sounds like a cool idea, if you do go through with it you should take pictures along the way and make a quick/brief how-to

my boost gauge back lighting is going out too. ******* hate when a light burns out. When one goes out it makes me want to punch babies.

I would love to go red like the VW, or pontiac orange. Our interior lighting seems cartoonish.

Did you make a how-to on using those white LEDs for the cluster display?

Would love to rig something like that up
