Time for new tires @ 3500 miles
Time for new tires @ 3500 miles
Yea, 3500 miles and my tires have less then 50% tread
. I hate car shows, " Hey, Cobalt, spin em" or " Cobalt, Lite em' up". Me being be me loving to do it did it everytime
. Now I have to get new ones. But hey can't make the SS look bad, so I did it for the name.
Anyway, question at hand. New Tires ? What should I get that will hook up like crazy and perform amazing but still keep the low profile look? I've heard good thing about the GForce aren't so bad. Open for all suggestions. Thank You

hmm quick question..
Why cant you rotate your tires and put the front ones on the back and the back ones on the front and then get another 3500 miles. If you have already done this or like to drift and used your ebrake too much (just enough lol) I would suggest a harder compound tire because you my friend are hard on the cobalt sneakers. Softer compound = better traction shorter life, harder compound = longer tire life less traction to a point.

im getting(sooner or later) 18x7.5 rims and im getting 235/40/18 Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires..they come standard on the corvette and my buddy has them on his camaro and he told me he can dump the clutch at about 4K and they'll still hookup and not spin...as for the cost idk cuz my dad works at goodyear and gets a discount...dunlop makes some pretty good low profile tires too

The Kumho esctas really are not bad for the price I had them on my old Z24 in 17's for awhile then in 16's also. I could cut 2.1 60s with them so the traction is not bad at all. Right now on my cobalt LS I have some Fuzion tires I think they are made by bfgoodwrench pretty decent tire at a nice price.
tx05cobalt,
Fuzions are a Firestone/Bridgestone brand tire. They are decent when looking @ price alone but wear quickly if you are hard on them. Dry traction is pretty good, but wet traction SUCKS and that is with an AWD Twin turbo Stealth. To clearify what I mean by wet traction sucks is, they would hold a line when roads were wet (NOT standing water) to a point and then traction would completely fail to the point of full drift. Very little warning before the point of traction failure. Dry contions were steady and predictable. I didn't like pushig the car when wet. With 100K miles on car I've had WAY better tires in wet conditions. 05SDI

If you are going with the 215/45/R18 size there are really not many options
- Pirelli Rosso OEM tires and Pzero Systems
- Michelin Pilots
- Two Bridgestone Potenzas
I wouldn't reccomend going to a different size due to sidewall bulge which will affect handling.

ok heres the deal
kumho= crap
toyo= dont like how they ride, same with yokohamas
bridgestone potenza s03 or 050 both are awesome and come on the nismo 350z and other badass rides
bf goodrich traction KD or scorcher TA are reeeallly good performance tire but expensive and will go quick
same with the fuzions we sell
the nitto drag radials are beastly and will cut your ETs quite a bit but not that streetable for everyday weather and are so expensive plus they will last like 5 months maybe 6
my opinion, but ive mounted close to 100,000 tires in my life and the only person at work with that loves to install the high performance/low profile tires, because they can be a pain in the ass if your fighting it
i just love the cars they come on

the best all around tire i have ever owned was a set of Brigestone Potenzas RE950
at the time were our top of the line tire, they were predictable in any weather even snow when it falls

Don't know much about the Potenza's but they have a good reputation. Forget the Khumo's - they're just for show, if that even. The Toyo's have been recommended to me by more than 1 shop and they work exceptionally well on forged rims like the 18's on the SS/SC. I guess it comes down to what sizes are available. Personally I would go down a size to 17's which opens the door to a lot more choices.
Maybe the tire mounting expert can comment???

why would he downgrade from a stock size on a brand new car??
and the kumho's work great, they arent "for show"
and if my friends with 300+WHP can handle em, i think theyre good enough for a cobalt
