Tint
Tint
I'm thinking about getting my windows tinted mainly to help keep the seats from getting hot and burning my ass in the summer time. Pennsylvania's legal limit is 30% I'm just wondering if that's enough to keep my seats from getting 600 degrees. Thanks.
Probably not...just get one of those sunvisors for when your car sits in the hot sun...they work wonders..they goofy but hey if you don't like a hot butt then they're your best choice.
I have 13% on my car all except windshield. Best thing to do is park somewhere the sun doesn't shine in through the windshield. Also get the metalized tint thats what truely helps with keeping the temp down in the car. Honestly if you can try and go a little darker maybe like 22% that helped on my old cobalt. 30% would help but not much.
I have 20 % all around and my car still gets kind of hot. It's not as hot as it would be without them but still toasty. If you really want to keep it cold just get a loser sun visor. Haha.
I have 35% and it blows the biggest waste of money ive ever spent it does absolutly nothing! lol tax return time im goin 5 or 20% but here in ohio the limit is 50 and my friend has 5 and hes never got anything and its been 2 years.
i agree with him. It got pretty warm down here this summer and I have 20% all around. The windsheild is what lets all the head in i believe. Get a window deflector or something.
Yes, 30% will make a huge difference no matter what anyone says. It will take it much longer to heat up, and block a great deal of light. It will still get hot, but at least the sun isn't beating down, most high quality tint blocks a good deal of UV rays.
From what I am reading online it looks like 70% is the limit in PA all the way around... That would not make much difference at all, it would be hard to tell your windows are even tinted. A basic factory window with no tint film is considered around 90%. I think you might have your light admittance percentages reversed..

in MY we can put the darkest on the windows behind the driver, but we can only have 72% on the front.
but i have 5% on the back 3 windows and 20% on the fronts 2 and it still gets hot in my car!! so your best bet is one of those sun reflector things that you put in the window.

i have 20% on the my front windows and the rear side windows. i like the look of it and it does help with he sun. i was pulled over 1 time and got a ticket. i had to choose between a ticket for the tint or a littering ticket, so i took the tint. cop pulled out some gadget to slide over my window to check the tint, it read like 16% or something, he informed me the legal limit was 75 or 70%.
It will not make a HUGE difference...it will help slightly at best...if you park your car in the sun...you need a sun visor for a TRUELY huge difference. I could see 5% making a noticable difference but it'll still get warm...and you're not going to put your front window to anything less than 30% ...and even that is dangerous IMO...If you are letting ANY amount of sunlight in...it will still get warm...a sun visor provides 0% of light to get in..which is why they ACTUALLY work.
.
To me, setting in a car with no tint, and 30% tint is a HUGE difference... It is like wearing sunglasses vs. not wearing them. I've never like the idea of sun visors, just something else in my car and another pain in the ass. When the sun is angled I usually try to park away from it. Otherwise I deal with the extra few degrees. The dashes in cobalt's are hard plastic junk, they won't react like other dashes in prolonged direct sunlight, fairly durable.

Oh ok thanks, excuse me for getting wrapped up in more subjective internet subjects. Permitting 30% light is quite a difference compared to nothing as far as I am concerned, blocking a lot of direct sunlight and UV rays. YES it will still get hot as ****. Yes if you park in direct sunlight it is cooler to have sun visor. I have been in a 30% tinted car and a non tinted car setting beside each other on a hot day, major difference, everyone realized it. Its subjective once again, maybe I need to define huge, or just remove it altogether to not be misunderstood. Look up some tint studies on heat admittance I guess?

I guess it all just really depends on how often you park in the sun and for how long of a period of time it is parked there. either way...your best solution is a sun visor...regardless of how silly they look or how much of a PIA they are.
Nah, state law says that the tint can't be so dark that you(mainly a police officer) are unable to see inside the vehicle. If you look up state inspection station sheets on the window section it says the tint is passable at 30%. You'll probably still get **** from cops since PA doesn't give a clear limit, but the rule of thumb is if it passes inspection then it's most likely legal.
EDIT: Alot of sites even the attorney general site says 70% but I know I saw an inspection bulliten state 30%....I'll see if I can find it.

i got 7% all the way around. very illegal but very sexy
if you see a cop, roll ur windows down before you pass them. promise you won't get pulled over.

It is illegal here in Delaware to have tint unless you have an eye condition and it has to be written by an eye doctor and ok'd by the DMV.
I have 15% front widows and 5% rear. Its keeps it pretty cool inside. What I did was when I went to get the tint put on I told the owner about my conditions and he recommended what I have on my car today. You should be able to just ask the person who is putting it on your car. The guy who did mine had tint on his car so he showed me and had me sit inside to see if I liked it. I was very happy with their work and they gave me a lifetime warranty.
