looks nice! I really would like to do that to my mine. Is there a how to on this?
I might just buy some extra tail lights and try it out. I don't like the aftermarket ones because they stick out too far, or blink too fast. I would like to keep the stock look, just modify it to murdered out status.

1) Wetsand (with 2000 grit)
2) Niteshade it, allow some time to dry
3) Wetsand again
4) Niteshade, dry
and repeat, until you are at the darkness you think you want then (actually you may want to do an extra light coat due to the next step)
5) Wetsand
6) Clearcoat, dry
7) Wetsand
8) Clearcoat, dry
(the "dry" time for these don't need to normally be longer than 10-15 min usually)
The reason you want to use clearcoat is to make it shiny so it looks nice like your paint and isn't dull, and it also keeps it from peeling or dulling more over time. Waxing it after the last coat of clear also helps protect it and then you can wax your tails when you wax the rest of your car.
I did all four of mine and while the first was drying I would prep and spray the next one and so on and by the time I sprayed the fourth (coupe tails) the first was dry and ready to start again.
I say do an extra coat of VHT because mine came out to more of a deep deep red (looks black in shade or at night) instead of a black due to my last wetsand, doesn't look bad, much better than stock, just not black.
This method seems to be the one with the best outcome (also more time consuming, but worth it) from what I've seen and experienced
Peeling off probably because you didn't use clear. I would def use clear coat when you redo them.
all i did was clean them off with soap water dryed them good and sprayed one light coat then waited like 15 mins and sprayed a little heavier coat let them sit for 3 hours then re-installed them and thats the results i got i like it alot
Wow i had to work to get mine shinny. I did about 5 coats of VHT 4 coats of clear then wetsanded, polished with rubbing compound followed by polishing compound.
run a little luke-warm tap water into a small bowl or sand near your tap, dip a small piece of ultra-fine sandpaper in, then commence sanding. Just be sure to keep dipping the sandpaper into the water or rinsing every now and then.
Also dry off the tails after you wetsand them before you spray, of course
