tinting the tailights?

Im considering tinting my tailights. It never really struck me how good it would look until today for some reason. My friend's '05 Focus's tailights are tinted, and it isnt really even themed in w/ his car, and they look great! But I would bet that it'd look awesome on a white car w/ gunmetal wheels like mine. He has film though, and i'll probally be going with the spray since its really the only option for a Cobalt. But first, I just wanna ask is this a DIY task or should it be professionally done? I've never done this, and I don't wanna mess up my talights, b/c im sure once its on, theres no going back. My guess is i'd have to remove the lenses and just spray it on, but how much, and how should I go about keeping it looking even. I dont want it patchy w/ some parts of the tailights darker than the other. Any advice would be great. Im not 100% on doing this, so id like some opinions and input before I do so. Thanks!

You've been lucky. My tinted taillights are the ony reason I ever get pulled over. 3 times so far. All warnings.

hmmm....well i've already been hassled for the exhaust. Two exhaust tickets already. Maybe ill leave them be b/c i've been lucky lately. Hate a state trooper behind me at the light the other day and he let me be. Don't wanna give cops even more reasons to pull me over. Was a good thought though. Thanks anyways guys.

bah.. in order to live outside the law you must live inside the law... they are not going to pull you over for just the tails (or at least thats what a NY statie told me), i have the tiails, a loud exaust, and tinted windows... i have had one warning for the tints and never a word about the tails.. i saw go for it, but its your car bro

Well I got pulled over for JUST the exhaust twice, and once back when I had my RX-7, and got tickets all 3 times. Cops in VA don't really believe in warnings. They are just like "your cars illegal, fix it soon, and oh yeah, heres your ticket".

^ I've done it. It looks good to me and no problems with the po-po. I've got pics in my gallery.

im thinking of tinting mine as well
but im thinking of using Lamin-x
my friend used it on his 06 Saab 9-3 and i used his leftover for my sidemarkes
looks good and still lets light pass through
mainly b/c its a film and i get pulled over for it im able to remove it easily
its is more price though and u might not be able to go as dark
