just wrapped, i had it done for a while and got bored of it so i took it off over summer. i'm starting to feel like i might wrap it again since i have plenty of wrap left

LOL good eye!!!!. sticks out more. Amanda drove that car to Grand Prairie AB when she moved there, she is now there for a second winter. On redline wheels and snows for winter...with Brembo BBK, rear disc conversion, twisting beam bushings, cabs and tow hooks car runs mint. Good test. Had to put in a block heater, its been very very cold there all month.

Not bad for a 3000 dollar used 75 k mile Cobalt. We put in C_D_88's black interior and ditched the horrible stock silver stained interior, and flushed the engine oil out and put in a new tensioner, fixed the PCV air box. replaced a damaged front bumper and fender. and the Redline exhaust system and very worthwhile mod, more power and better fuel economy.

so about 4.5k in it and no problem

the plate bracket is mounted on the hook pin, all I have to do is take the hood pin out, pull plate bracket off, and then put the pin back in, the factory plate bracket was never re-installed on my new bumper

^^^ you want to center it and be able to have your license plate on it? In the works, will be done next week...with luck and snow permitting....
that said, when its o dark hundred and 357K below zero, "just hook up" is good enough for me, dont want to be screwing around undoing pins removing plates etc.

Unless I lived south of the mason/dixon line....

some kid is selling hooks on facebook. He is engraving them with the SS logo and they are bigger as a result. The engraving is a neat idea, but not something I would do. Its a hook.

The kid is not a vendor as such. I think he is in for a rude shock when he deals with the reality of making a "production"piece and sending parts out to people.

FYI we have been making hooks for racing for about 40 years. My dad used a rope loop BITD in his Mini in 1962. Ugh. Had to do better than that. ( he also used a leather strap to hold the hood down, this before hood pins lol.)

At first we made tow hooks individually, some welded on, some bolted. Around the race track, working on cars slamming your leg into a protruded tow hook got old. So the team decided to make hinged ones.

Then its how do you line them up? Each one was an individual set.
That doesnt work when you are doing numbers.
  • We made a jig.
  • we use chromealloy tube.
  • we plasma cut the parts off a CAD drawing on a computer directed plasma cutter.(Fabi MADE his own plasma cutter and computer driver from scratch!!)
  • Tig weld the parts.
  • we ream the finished parts after welding larger so we can powdercoat the inside and they will fit right
    We use stainless pins.
  • we assemble with anti seize.


We trial fit each design on each car, so SS/LT/LS/Redline/HHR/kappa/CorvetteC5/C6/ all have different sets of plates and spacers, including the nifty "Z" bracket we made as a pilot for C_C_88 and his Sedan. We changed to the hot rolled versus cold rolled plate for welding and better finish reasons

So its a whole different ball game and at 95/150 for front/front& rear sets, well priced.
Any hook will fit any plate anytime. And we guarantee they wont break. I have one stretched one (wow) and one bent mount plate ( please dont lift the car vertically with the hook)

thats all I know

You can make them cheaper. Not much of the above will apply.
The are early hooks. we changed the design so they look nicer when the hook is removed ( hidden plate)

pretty much what i thought john but i didn't want to say anything, honestly before i bought my hook from you i was going to make my own but finally decided yours was proven to fit and work and for 95 bucks it was worth it. mounted up pretty easy even on my LS bumper, now i haven't had to use it yet but i hope i never have to. from what it looks to me this guy is making them more or less for form while yours are proven for function, it's a shame the cobalt community sees the cheaper price and automatically jump all over it, but then all it takes is 1 failure of his hooks to show why it's a cheaper piece

Thanks. The tig welding is getting neater, Imust take some new pictures; these go back some years...another job to do tomorrow.
had a TC in for PCV upgrade and cabs today, but I have to get the car back the valves are coked too badly, needs a walnut blast....must be snowing like a beatch in Clarence NY!
