Up-Level Wheel Question..

Hey guys. Buying a set of wheels/tires from a fellow member today. Just have a few questions. My 2.4 has 17's stock. I've been replacing them with the stock size P6's. These wheels I'm getting are the Enkei FN-18's, and they are wrapped in stock s/c P-Zero's..

1. Are the P-Zero's OK in the snow/ice?

2. Will I have to adjust anything so my speedo/tach reads properly? If so, does it cost anything to have it done? I'm going it for inspection next month, so I could have my dealership do it then..

3. Will my ride be alot more harsh? In terms of stiffness and stuff?

4. My factory 17's are 17x7, but these new ones are sized at 18x7.55. The extra .55 is just regarding the extra lip, correct? So they're a tad wider..?

5. Do I need special lug nuts for these? I was gonna go to Advance and get a new set anyway because my old style chunky locking nuts are looking a bit dated.. If I need something different than stock specs, what do I look for? Or is the stock set fine?

I think that's all.. Here's a link to see what they look like..

as long as your putting on the stock tire, or a tire that has the same overall diameter, your speedo will be fine. Or if you want to be really accurate, go to a good tire company's website, such as tirerack.com and get into the detailed specs of each tire. Look up your stock sized P6's...and make a note of the Revolutions Per Mile. Now look up the tires you want to replace them with, and pick the new size that gets you closest to your original Revs Per Mile number.

I just figured that since these are 18 instead of 17 and the tires are the same diameter that it'd be +1..?

Not a chance. High-performance summer only tires. You'll need snows.

2. Will I have to adjust anything so my speedo/tach reads properly? If so, does it cost anything to have it done? I'm going it for inspection next month, so I could have my dealership do it then..

More than likely yes. As someone mentioned, unless the overall tire + rim diameter is EXACTLY the same it will be off. And YES it costs money to change it. You're looking at a minimum of ~$50.

3. Will my ride be alot more harsh? In terms of stiffness and stuff?

Not a lot, no. Unless the tires are uber low profile.

4. My factory 17's are 17x7, but these new ones are sized at 18x7.55. The extra .55 is just regarding the extra lip, correct? So they're a tad wider..?

Yes, just a tad wider.

Not a clue. Check the specs on the wheels when you buy them I guess?

Will it cause a "problem" aside from just reading slightly off? Because I guess I have to get a set of winter steelies since the Nero's aren't for winter.. So I don't want to have to adjust the monitors like 4 times.. lol.

OK, you said STOCK s/c P-zeros. Now you said Neros those are not the stock tires. Which is it?

Buy the steelies and winter tires to suit the size of the summer tires and you're fine.

Noooooooo, you said P-zeros. Those can be either Neros or Rossos, but you said stock ss/sc P-zeros which are Rossos - NOT Neros. The distinction is important. SOME Neros can be used in the snow, not all.

NO Rossos are no good in the snow, that's what I was making my assumption on.

Now if you get the Nero M&S tires, they're all season and mud & snow rated. However, I just run mine as summer-only tires. You will probably want to do the same, it's more to protect the rims from potholes and give yourself some extra traction in that lovely slushy soup we tend to get on the roads around here.

Do you have a pic of the tires on the rims? Might be able to tell more from there.

Not one that's close enough to see.. I asked him in the PM that I told him I bought them to specify what tires I was getting.. So we'll see.........

Here's his image post. There 2 sets of wheels in there. Mine's the Enkei's (more spokes). And no, they're not the one in the picture with the crash.. haha

TR should be able to net ya about $65/wheel for steelies. Maybe less now that they're more common. Also watch eBay. I picked up 4 G6 rims for the same price as steelies.

Oh....BTW, just tossing this out there....your speedo may be off a little, but your tach will be fine, tachs measure engine speed, not vehicle speed.

Update. The Nero's I'm getting on the Enkei's are the mud and snow ones. So that's a plus. But I'm still trading my factory 17's for a set of 16's with Blizzak's on them. They're steelies. So that'll work out..
