Visor Warnings...
Visor Warnings...
I did something stupid...
Yeah I couldnt find a topic anywhere on this and I KNOW theres poo on the internet about this - but Cobalt visors are hardcore on there.
So yeah I was GOING to buy two of those vinyls that cover (they fit right over - EXACT dimensions) the warnings with a sexy logo or whatever...
Instead like the curious idiot I am I started peeling at the edge of the warning... Now what? Now a little of the edge is hanging out and it wont stick back on. I also see that if you tried to peel the whole thing off it'd leave A LOT of residue.
So now Im stuck between krazy-gluing the corner back and resuming the vinyl thing - or just taking the warnings off which is preferred.
My question is how would you get them off without leaving the poo on the visor. It is INNN there. Is it even possible? Maybe soak it in alcohol? Anyone dunnit?
thanks

If you haven't started yet, wait...
I'm in the process or removing mine and here's what i've got so far:
Skip the rubbing alcohol, it does nothing, instead use a hair dryer to warm the sticker KEEP IT AT LEAST 2" away from the visor or you'll burn a hole (guess how i know), but it will make most of the glue stick to the sticker and not the visor.
I've tried: paint thinner, goo gone, brake cleaner & rubbing alcohol to remove the glue left behind, just waiting for the visor to dry and see the results. So far I think the goo gone will work the best, but the brake cleaner did a better job then i expected.

Ooo wow thanks for taking the sacrifice and trying it first haha.
Thats good to know on the alcohol. Ill try the hair dryer, I think Ive heard of people using that.
Please update on the results. I MOSTLY want to know if anything discolored the visor. I dont mind trying out different products like you did, but I dont want to end up making it look worse than before.

Yeah i figured since the visor is already f-ed up i might as well try a bunch of stuff...
So far, the Goo Gone was my fav, mostly cause it was almost as effective as the brake cleaner but smelt a lot nicer. The brake cleaner was pretty effective as well, followed by the paint thinner, the rubbing alcohol didn't seem to make any difference.
I had to goo gone the good one 3 times to get it so you couldn't see where the sticker used to be, after each time i washed it (soap & water), rinsed it and then let it dry. I used a bunch of clean rags and scrubbed fairly hard with each step to try and remove the glue...
Honestly... this was such a pain in the ass i wouldn't have bothered (hind sight being 20-20), i REALLY hope the new visor doesn't have stickers or i'll be pretty ticked off

It will help if you take the visor off the car too!!! Warm with Hair dryer and peel slowly but keep going back and warming the sticker as you go along. Keep the hair dryer back from the decal as not to melt it you just want it warm.
Yeah nightmare if I knew it was such a pain in the ass before I wouldve just gotten those sticker-decal things, but as I said its already hanging off a bit - so unless i was to glue it back on - there's no turning back haha.
Thanks everyone. Looks like its a hair-dryer and goo gone combo.
PS - And yea exsoccer everyone would (or should) agree indeed

You could always just remove the warnings and put the decals on where the glue is left... One other thing i forgot to mention, the visor is made of what reminds me of card-stock (really dense cardboard) so don't let it get too wet or it'll get soggy/limp
I didnt think the sticker would ..stick.. on cloth. And thanks for the warning. Im waiting for the weekend for the time to do it.
just ordered the airbag warning overlays from streamlinedesign.com i didn even notice the ugly air bag warnings till i read this post, shows how much i pay attention,, 16.50 total shipped, should be worth it, many colors to choose from
o ya if u didn take em all the way off, jus put some super glue on the corner, jus a little bit, that will hold it on there as good as new, if not better, just dont put too much , tht way it wont look like u tried peeling it off and then decided to superglue it back on
