Just wondering
Just wondering
Just wondering can you win money racing or something I mean can there be some kind of major bnenfits in racing as well? I mainly wanna do it just so I can be more productive and get out and meet new people and try something a bit different but would like to get serious with it and have alot of fun.
As far as autoX goes, not really. The SCCA has Contingency Programs that you can register for if you meet some requirements like running their tires, brakes, honda and VW pay you for running their cars but in order to get paid you have to place well(top 3) and national events. Such as the national tour and pro solo Championship.
You can alway try and talk to some company to give you a discount on parts or some money by running their name on your car. I ran a iZoom.com magnet on my S2000 because he gave me my numbers for free.

Coming from someone that used to road race, you basically spend thousands of dollars (sometimes in a single weekend), and compete for a $5 trophy, and if you're lucky, a discount on parts. Yes, even if you win.
Road Racing is very hard to do on your own dime. Jetta TDI cup coast about 40 grand for one season and that doesnt include if you get into a crash any your car needs to be fixed.
If you wana race wheel to wheel the cheap way, check out iracing.com. online racing simulator that rewards clean driving to move up the ranks. Im working my way up and having a lot of fun! Right now im going the jetta TDI cup and Mustang cup. 2 year membership is 180.00. but you do need good steering wheel.
sorry to change the subject kinda but its cheaper racing.

see the tv tells me the old saying is you start off with the best street car, you end up with the best race car, and that on any givin weekend more mazdas are road raced than any other brand lol
makes rich men poor also
makes rich men poor also
Lol yeah I hear my uncle say that stuff all the time, "it's a rich mans sport" lol but I was just curious I always wondered if people got lucky and get scouted for things what ever it maybe... and that would be sweet if I could get a company to discount me or whatever for having to run they're name on my car. Thanks for the reply's!
not many scouts at regional races that's for sure, and to jump into nationals right away its very very very seldom someone will be fast right away. the big thing is that you will no longer have a street car- even scca in ssc class the 2.4 na car go for 13-14k in race prep and t3 ss/sc 24k+ oh and yeah its for a <$5 trophy
entry fees 300-400 per race, fuel, tires @ $250 each- spares, brakes @ $300 a pair, hotels, tow rig, trailer, crew......................... the list goes on-
it seems the only way to make money from contingencies is for honda, mazda, vw, only once a year at the runoffs oh and dont expect any support from GM,
it seems there is only money or future opportunities in pro racing- but its seems only the rich kids get into that,
from my first race school the instructor said "just try and have fun out there" i think that's where the fun stopped and the responsibility started, lol
my advice do track days in your daily driver, or find a circle track- lol

Road racing does not draw huge crowds (generally), and costs fortunes to do well. Most of the time drivers are paying for their seat. That's right. Even at pro levels of road racing, many drivers are paying their way into that seat. Prize money? Hah! There are very, very few hired guns in the business, and they've earned their seats through gobs and gobs of track time, and some god damn talent sprinkled in.
No, you do not get "scouted out". You're in the wrong country if you think people make money road racing.
