Raybestos ST-43 brake pads
I'm tired of Cobalt Friction XR1. They're dying in 2 days now, and at 260+ a pop, that is not cheap. Andie @ Cobalt says it's ABS related, but I don't buy it since it's rare that I engage it. I don't seem to be the only person with this issue either.
A lot of the Evo and STI guys are moving to Raybestos pads, so I'm going to give these a try tomorrow. The pads worked out great today. It was MISERABLY hot. 105F, and humid. No signs of crazy wear, but my brakes are getting HOT.

I'm really looking forward to the results on these. I'm blowing through stock pads in 5 sessions and the stock pads really aren't very consistent.

Normal surface cracking. It's when it goes through the rotor, or to the edge where it's an issue. This is why drilled is absurd. It likes to play connect the dots and split wide open.

Congrats on the find! Didn't know raybestos made pads for our cars. You know you can pull the abs fuse right? Tbh I think abs messes me up, its only good for dding. We also pull the abs fuses on our 4x4 rigs because in mud, abs doesn't help...

The rotors I pulled off my Z yesterday looked like that, and it's never seen the track, just me abusing it on the street daily with hawk HPS pads and factory brembos.

Well, these rotors are done :) Lasted a year. Not bad. I can catch some of these now with a nail. The pads were awesome. They were pretty easy to modulate, and never gave up on me. Super consistent. That said, I've got to get some air to the brakes. I think that'll drop my lap times more than anything else. I don't even hold the throttle all the way to the brake zone anymore, in an effort to slow brake wear.

Where can you buy these pads? I'm doing a track day at road America this October. Since IRS my 1st time there I was thinking about some hawk pads.

do you think I would need pads being its my 1st track day at road america and i assume ill be in the beginer class? Im just debation cause I know I wont go all out but i do want to push the cobalt a bit. Just wondering if ill get enough heat in them to make them work well.

Given that you have a fair amount of car control experience w/ AX, I would recommend either going easy on the throttle on the straights, or getting a set of Raybestos, which will last you a long time. It's nice not having to worry about fade or inconsistency.

I throw them on just before going to the track. I drive to and from the track without an issues. They have plenty of braking power even when cold, and so did the Cobalt Frictions.

I just put a set of ST 43 on the car. Best braking ever for me on the track (only used stock and HP+ pads before). Lots of pad left after 4 sessions. Wangspeed, thanks for the tip on oil (and pads). I didn't use any oil all day with the Mobil 1. I was using 1/4 a quart of Ultra per session before the switch. That's kind of a scary difference. I don't need to worry about the PCV thing now.

I have run 9 different events at Road America. Brakes are your friend there. You come into a lot of corners at over 100+mph. Its a high speed course. I ran race pads on dedicated rotors and it really allows you to get the most out of the car and tires.
I am curious about these pads as I noticed they had a number of different compound to choose from also. |
I also am trying Raybestos LNF rotors, less money than the Brembo rotors. Seem to be okay so far but the machining is not consistent rotor to rotor, so not sure yet. Early days for testing.
