Tires for Road Racing

I just went to my first road course event this past weekend at Waterford Hills here in Mich, and I had a blast. However, I have stock tires with almost no tread left, and will be replacing them sometime for spring. I was curious what kind of tires you guys are running on your cars. I would like to bump up to a 225, want a summer performance tire only since I have Blizzaks for the winter, and want something to use on the street, since I can't afford a third set of wheels. Let me know if there are any suggestions. Thanks.

i don't post here much but I was bored at work and figured I'd see what was going on. Anyway, I HPDE my C5Z06 and using Nitto 555R2s now they won't come in your size but you might want to consider the Nitto NT-01. It's an affordable R-compound that you can definitely drive on the street and will hang with some stickies on the track.

But if your new to road racing/HPDE events then you should just stick with a good street tire for now. The Bridgestone RE-01R is a great tire, as is the Falken RT-615...both affordable, streetable and wonderful on a track. Going right to an R-compound as a novice isn't the best idea...ya need to learn the car first without relying on the grip you'll get from a R compound.

Hope this helps!

Try the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 "Star Spec" at $150 a pop, I am getting a set for DE in spring. Unless yuou have really good brakes, R-Compound will kill it. Besides, R-Compound are really too expensive usually $250 a pop even for the cheap ones like kumho and most of them needed to be shaved and heat cycled for dry track.

To be honest, should get a set of wheels just for DE's, because DE's usually induce uneven wear, even if you rotate the tires between runs.

Have fun.

I intend to buy street tires, since I can't afford another set of wheels, nor do I have any more room for another set of anything. I am basically looking for a set of street tires that will also have good grip at the track. My friend is running Falken Azanis on his STi, and he swears by them. They are relatively cheap, but I want second opnions, especially from people running front drivers. Besides, I found a 1979 BMW 320i for $500 that is tempting to turn into a track car.
