Venom is back!

Well sort off my son just bought a SSTC and we will be getting it ready for the track over the winter

For those that don't know me... I was the one that destroyed the Ontario Time Attack GT3 class back in 2009 with a stock 09 SSTC Sedan.

Looking forward to the Cobalt!!!
It's a high mileage 08 Coupe with diff and sunroof option and an upgraded inter cooler and charge pipe...
I'll post some pics later

Gunther Schmidt is in the 28's with his Cobalt at Mosport/CTMP so you gonna have to do some homework I am guessing. Stout times indeed. About ten seconds faster than a Grand Am cup car....

Hey John, how are you?

That's fast for a Cobalt! I only got mine down to 1.33 on cheap Koni Yellows and full weight before I sold it. What's he running for coilovers?

The Vette is down to a 1.28.85 (unofficial) on a well used 275/315 R6 setup and 1.29.5 (official) this year with that new Torvec Diff and some tips from Heinrocket on set up with the T1 suspension! I think I think I can go faster down 2 still... Next year I want to go 27's with fresh 315 A6's.
FYI I ended up 2nd overall in the 2014 CSCS Unlimited Rear Wheel Drive Championship.

congrats on the vette times. Gunther's deal is getting retarded... I would be interested what you could do on YYZ springs and Bilsteins rather than Konis. More money but potentially better damping and the YYZ springs work awesome. I was shocked how much better they were than anything else I had tried including the T3 springs Heinricy had made. \Based on our race setups....

Ohlins on Gunther's iirc and thats the best shock in the world for me...

Please tell me more about those shocks and springs... Do they come as struts (bolt in setup), where can I read up on them and how much can I get them for?
We plan on staying in the street tire (RS3 or Z2) classes on stock wheels for a season or so... How well would they work on streets?

I run his springs and koni shocks..... thry are a good setup and my cobalt hangs with faster cars no problem. The springs themselves are great. The konis are good but I hate inserts Bilsteins will be a better deal as the inserts eventually spread apart. I make a weld in collor to reinforce the shock body but it's a pain in the ass.

I started working on that idea but never got around to do it... Will definitely do that this time around!

Yeah mine are tig welded and I use stainless since I don't have to worry about thermal expansion too much between the dissimilar steels.

To make the koni inserts work is easy and requires no welding or additional spacing. Its all in how and how much the strut is cut and how the insert is placed in the tube. what i have found.

I would use Bilsteins. But they are pricey
and YYZ lol

Maybe... I am pretty sure I did mine correct as per instructions and still had play when it came to replace the shocks inserts - twice due to excessive shaft play in one season running C71 hankooks in SGT2. The tube definitely opened up, I had to put shims around the new inserts...
Bottom line - it's not the best setup for abuse. We need stronger struts all together.
Or if you want a car that can hold up to serious abuse get a C5Z! This friggen thing is unreal...lol

Yes they are... But if they last longer it might be worth looking into? Right now I am looking at all my options
Wonder if those Bilsteins are stronger then the Konis? It says the B8 SP is 36mm... Is that the shaft dia?

What is the spring rates for YYZ ?

Shaft diameter for bilstein b8 is 36 mm. The bilstein is a complete strut not an insert. The koni instructions are wrong. And the insert is tapered at the top and not tapered in so its easy to see how the strut insert can in fact be installed correctly, make it a double wall fit. Even koni experts get it wrong so don'tfeel badly

Go to the YYZ thread on this site, or the all things Powell thread , the spring rates are quoted there. All aftermarket cobalt springs have less rate than stock pretty much. except YYZ they are rising rate and its a good rise for sure . But anyway go to the thread.

Are you guys saying the non adjustable bilstein is better than an adjustable koni?

I am. adjustable is nice, you can over damp and under damp as needed. But monotube gas pressure trumps twintube in my opinion.
