Canadians... Persuit
Canadians... Persuit
'sup Canadians.
Just starting up the Canadian representation for this site. Im going to school in Edmonton right now, but I live in BC.
I was also thinking that since only Canada gets the Pontiac Persuit as the Cobalt's twin if they dont make a separate forum (or it doenst get much talk in the Cobalt section) we may as well have Persuit discussion in this forum.

P.S. Our beer kicks American ass

GM just can't seem to be able to make a manual transmission for it's FWD V6's, so even if they could cram a 3x00 60 degree V6 in the Delta chassis it wouldn't really be a true performance car would it?
There is light at the end of the tunnel however, as the G6 GTP to arrive next spring/summer will have a 6-speed manual that will be able to handle the torque from the 3.9L VVT V6.

I can understand GM hesitancy to do so. 8-% of all cars sold in North America are automtics. In Europe it is reverse---80% are manuals.
Last time GM did offer 5 speeds in mid sized cars was 91-93 (might be off by a year) on the W-body 3.4L DOHC engine.
I heard they had lots of warranty problems with the transmsions, weren't very smooth to drive and sold very poorly when compare the the automatics.
I have drive J-body V6 5 speeds and they are pretty jerky--have to really concentrate to get smooth laucnhs and shifts.
On the other hand--jump in any Honda and its eeasy to drive and you look like a pro.
So, I don't think GM knows how to build a really good FWD transmsiion---at least behind a V6. Hopefully the new ones will be good.

My car is really easy to drive, probably the easiest manual I've ever driven. It's clunky, the throws are long and gates are vague, but it's easy to drive. My sister has an 03 Cav, her car is really jerky, the clutch feels horribly out of adjustment and IIRC all of the 03s were like that. The 04s feel alot better though.
Yeah you're right, you can get G/A's with a 5 speed as well. Only with the Eco though, the V6 is auto, just like Aleros.
But seems like the G6 GTP will be pretty damn sweet with the 6 speed.
