Hockey's Back Guys, who you cheering for?
I was definately thinking about subscribing to NHL Centre Ice because i want to get as many Hockey games in HD as possible. But since i would only be really interested in the Sens games, i think i'll pass. Although this year i have become much more of a fan of the league than years past, so i can see myself getting it next year for sure. Especially if more games are broadcast in HD!!
Let's Go Nucks!!!! Leafs will always suck!!
And leafy, have you seen the point totals for Nazzy, Bert, and Morrison? Underachieving my ass.
I got tickets to Friday's game can't friggen wait!!!
So glad hockey is back...

Eastern Teams-
Montreal Canadiens:
This is an exciting team to watch... probably a suprise to most that they are in the top of the Northeast division, but you can read between the lines with this team and see that Bob gainey has assembled a club that is built to take advantage of the new NHL. Speedy Koivu is finally healthy, Kovalev looks like he's having fun for the first time in his career, and Ribeiro and Ryder look amazing together. They're steady on defense with Souray and Komisarek, and argueably the best goaltender in the league in Theodore. This team has all the tools to be a success this year, their only drawback is that they are a smaller team which might be a weardown when teams start going for the hunt in mid feb-march.
Playoff Success Prediction: The Canadiens could be a sleeper pick for a good run this year, if Jose got hot during the stretch run, who knows how far they could go?
Ottawa Senators:
This is a year where the Senators say they have something to prove... yeah they've said that for the past five years, but it looks like they may be able to live up to their word this year... Spezza and Heatley are embarrassing teams all over the league with their dominating play... and that's their second line! Hasek looks just as good as ever, tied for the lead in shutouts. What is going to stop this team? Maybe only their own Demons... can they get past the Leafs in the playoffs?
Playoff Success Prediction: Looking like a team on a mission, they are heavy favorites early in the season for the Stanley Cup... lets hope they don't burn themselves out early trying to paste Divisional rivals such as The Leafs (8-0) and the Sabres (10-4) otherwise they may not live up to promises, after the pasting the Leafs last saturday, they looked ordinary against the Flyers the game after.
Toronto Maple Leafs:
The leafs to me, are an enigma. Maybe it has something to do with their coach, Pat Quinn... Who loves wide open, fast pace style of hockey, but is content in playing penalty minute leader Wade Belak over Potential smooth skating Rookie Carlo Coliacovo, or giving more Ice time to Nick Antropov over letting the Rookie line of Wellwood, Stajan and Steen show that youthful enthusiasm that they have needed for years. What the Leafs need to do to be a force this year is they need to stay healthy, and work on playing as a team... which is a reflection of it's coach's coaching style, very absent and sloppy.
Playoff Success Prediction: Stanley Cup! Who would think otherwise?
Seriously though, you can tell that Eric Lindros is on a mission... hometown, home team, and he wants to bring the cup home... just remember the 97 Cup run the Flyers went on... #88 was dominating, and love him or hate him, he can make or break a game. Look for the Leafs to be underdogs this year.

Good overall reviews i would have to say. One thing i would like to point out about the SENS is, the Spezza - Heatley line was changed before the game lastnight to the Spezza - Heatley - Alfie line. 13 points combined! Everytime they were on the ice something happened. Even the commentators were saying this is the most deadly line the NHL has seen in many many years!
Oh and Leafy, its good of you to stay loyal to your team.

Western Teams-
Vancouver Canucks:
My opinion is they are starting to wear a little thin, with clouts gone for a while and the Heralded "best line in hockey" not producing as they really should... move over Naslund, Bertuzzi, Morrison... The best line in hockey right now is owned by the Ottawa Senators.
Playoff Success Prediction: If Vancouver would have had Bertuzzi in the lineup last year and Cloutier healthy again, they probably would have made it through to the final in Calgary's place. They will only reap success if those two players will finally pick it up and start playing as they should.
Calgary Flames:
Here's an interesting stat for you, when the NHL released it's New Rules DVD to each of the 30 organizations, 75% of the footage they used as an example of what infractions arent going to be condoned this year was from the Calgary Flames on their Stanley Cup run last season. I don't know about you, but I think that the reason the Flames are struggling in this early season is that they are having difficulty adjusting to the new NHL. This team is deep in talent though, what they really need is someone who can start dishing off to Iginla... Amonte is a goal Scorer, not a playmaker.
Playoff Success Predicition: Coach Sutter is fighting tooth and nail to play the old NHL... he needs to realize that if this team is to make the playoffs... it needs to stop taking stupid penalties! You can't score all the time shorthanded.
Edmonton Oilers:
I love this team when they play to their potential. Hemsky and Torres are going to be superstars one day in the NHL.
This is what bugs me about the Oilers is that season after season they tank early on, and just watch, they will tank in January until about a month and 1/2 before the playoffs start when they will go on a tear and then let all their fans down because their play sucked when they should have been winning... I guess consistency comes with age, but so it does with a better coach, a goaltender you can count on, and a bonifide First line centre.
Playoff Success Prediction: This team isn't going anywhere unless the address their goaltending issues... Jussi's a good goalie, but your team needs to be able to know that their goaltender is capable of stealing some games. I'm not too sure that they are good enough down the middle... especially with Peca out indefinately.

You need to watch that video again, 75% of the footage may have been from flames games but 75% of the penalties were going aganst the other team.

Nazzy's the only one in the top 30 in scoring, Leafs defenseman Bryan McCabe has more points than him!

I cant wait for Lindros to get another concussion
