XM/Sirius in Canada
XM/Sirius in Canada
Santa is bringing me XM for XMAS.... yipeeee!
I picked the one out I want, it's the lightest, smallest plug & play they have right now. And changes to one of 7 colours (mine will be red of course since my inserts are red).
An interesting thing. My housemate/co-worker was one of the few key people getting this approved for Canada. Working for Industry Canada - we do the regulations here for satellite stuff. Thank God. I'm getting so bored of Chez and The Bear.

With MP3 capability we have I just don't see the value in paying $80-$200 for a receiver and then another $20/month for radio??? It's not like you can choose what song you want to hear on demand....now that's an idea...ON DEMAND radio just like digital cable!! Now that I would pay for!!!

I would definitely pay for an On Demand service. I listen to metal and hardcore and you can't find good stuff on the radio.

Very affordable for the added 'pleasure'.
Hey, you'll be able to get Howard Stern! Theres some nice shows on xm.
Xm radio is actually pretty cool, you get to find a lot of cool new bands and live outside your cd collection, and most importantly the crtc (for the time being). At least I am pretty sure its not crtc regulated, someone correct me if I am wrong. 20 bucks a month is dick all these days. If your a music buff, xm is a good investment. You get a great variety of music. Mix that in with the MP3 , or 10 cd changer and you have quite the music library.
Hell, so many people sign up for the HDTV and digital cable package without complaint, and its 90% ****, and way more expensive.

No, no Howard Stern unfortunately. He's with Sirius only. And it's only $12.95 for us here in Canada so why the hell not! In the States there's 5million XM subscribers and only like 2.3million sirius subscribers. I wonder how it turn out to be here. If you like CBC (uggg!) then definitly go with Sirius because of the 10% Canadian content they (both) are forced to have, 3 of the 4 'non music' cdn channels are CBC. YUCK. I'd rather have more of anything than CBC hahaha! You know, when XM/Sirius showed up here requesting to be allowed to provide service here in Canada, we told them if they didn't give us 10% Cdn content we wouldn't allow them rights in Canada! So, that's all we get. 10% but hey... I'm getting it for the US content anyhow

And you believed a salesman! He fed you a load of crap
First of all, Howard Stern has signed on with Sirius and wherever Sirius is, he is.
Secondly, it's impossible to restrict a station from broadcasting anywhere -
or
, when on satellite.Anything you need to know about satellite radio, I have your answers. We do the regulations right here where I work.

. I did think of getting one added internally to the 'XM-ready' stereo in the car, but this unit 'adds' to the interior since it has a nice display in 7 diff. colours. The unit I got is the latest released (Nov. 29th) and the smallest and most lightweight. It's a Delphi Roady XT.
I'm holding out till a hard wire IPOD adapter is compatible with our cars...call me a control freak but I cant stand the radio (typically because I have music over a month before it is released) and I like picking my own soundtrack ... but congrats on the purchase ...I'm interested in how it looks ..When mounted in there ...I typically dont like anything that doesnt look permanent/factory
I was considering sat radio as a backup but I feel I personally wont use it enough

Isn't The Delphi Roady XT and XMRADIO... That is what futureshops website says... There is only 3 units for the Sirius... Are we getting both XM and Siruis in Canada???
If so which one is better?
quote "Isn't The Delphi Roady XT and XMRADIO... " WHAT? I think yur missing a few words there I don't know what you asking...!
Satellite Radio has only two providers: XM and Sirius.
Yes we have both providers broadcasting here already in Canada. XM is using Delphi Sirius isn't. Certain units are for use with XM, and certain units are for use with Sirius. And you cannot interchange them. So if you like the look/function of a certain unit, you must go with whatever provider is using them. I loved the Roady XT, for the looks and functionality, and the fact it's the tiniest...that's why I'm with XM. Also, XM and Sirius have different stations for sports and such, so depending on what you want to listen to, check out their 'lineup' and pick between XM and Sirius as the provider of choice.
Sirius has 3 satellites floating around up there, and XM (for the moment) has two. Their satellites don't operate in the same fashion but both provide the same reception with their terrestrial stations being here on the ground, two per city on average. So they are both equally provide the same reception, you just need to pick which stations you prefer and which unit you prefer, to make up your mind as to who to go with! Not sure if I've helped with what yu asked...

Sorry , I meant to say.. "Isn't The Delphi Roady XT --A-- XMRADIO", That's after I realized you said you were getting XM.. I didn't realize we had XM here, I thought it was just Sirus.. Cause I mean when I ordered my car I am pretty sure you couldn't get XM radio here, which is crappy cause I would have maybe ordered it factory..
I don't know if it's really worth $12.99 (XM) and $14.99 (Sirus) per month.. And they say that it is starting at those prices.. So I guess more stations more money I am not sure ... I am gonna go into futureshop and check it out.. If they go for a good price on boxing day I might just go pick one up while I am picking up my 20" LCD screen for my computer..
